Karsten Warholm silenced injury concerns with prevailing 400m hurdles heat
Norway's reality record holder Karsten Warholm silenced injury concerns as he coasted through the initial round of his 400 meters hurdles world title defense on Saturday.
The Olympic boss, who tore his hamstring at the Rabat Diamond League meet in June, detonated all along and never confronted a serious test, winning his intensity in 49.34 seconds.
Warholm, who two times broke the world record in 2021, had not finished a race in 10 months but rather brought his brand name swagger to the starting line, slapping his legs and springing high up prior to settling into the blocks.
His main opponent, world silver medallist Rai Benjamin of the United States, also made easy work of his intensity, looking side-to-side through the last straight for challengers as he slowed through the finish to finish in 49.06.
"The group goes insane when they hear your name," said Benjamin, subsequent to soaking up the cheers of the home fans at Hayward Field. "It's an astonishing encounter."
