Building collapse kills Immigration Officer at Elubo.

An Immigration Officer at Elubo identified as Francis Amankwa has met his untimely death as the building he lived in collapsed on him at Elubo in the Western region Saturday dawn.

The incident happened in the wee hours of Saturday, July 16, 2022, as a result of a heavy downpour which collapsed a neighbour’s wall and eventually hit the room the deceased slept in.

 

According to eyewitness accounts it took personnel from the Ghana Fire service, police service and immigration service to rescue him but unfortunately, he was pulled out of the rubble dead.

 

His body had been deposited at the Ekwie mortuary.

The Tema-Accra passenger train service will resume on Monday, July 18, 2022, the management of Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) has said.

 

The shuttle service was shut down temporarily to facilitate rehabilitation works.

 

"After successfully addressing some technical challenges, GRCL conducted a series of test runs, and a final joint inspection was also carried out on July 7, 2022, by GRCL and Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) to ascertain the suitability of the line for passenger service," according to a statement from the Railway Company.

The Ghana Railway Company Limited, on the other hand, stated that it has received approval from the GRDA to begin the shuttle service.

 

“The general public is being advised to bear with us, that as a start, a restricted speed limit of 35km/h has been imposed on the movement of the train to enable our technical team to continue to address any teething problem that may emerge during these early stages of the resumption of the shuttle service.”

 

"There would also be other GRCL officials onboard the train to collect commuters' views and concerns in order for GRCL Management to address them in order to ensure the smooth operation of the passenger service to the best satisfaction of our clients." "The general public is hereby assured of GRCL's usual comfortable, safe, and punctual shuttle service," the statement continued.
