Football goal scorers are always in the spotlight because scoring goals is an art. The top goal scorers are always forwards, however midfielders and defenders can sometimes score occasionally. However, goalkeepers are never certain when it comes to goals and are always thought of as someone who guards the fort. Goalkeepers rarely appear on the scoreboard. Nevertheless, this curse has been broken in the world of football by some maniacs.
Fernando Patterson, eighth, had 35 goals.
Fernando Patterson, a former goalkeeper for Costa Rica, is the next name on the list. His playing days were spent primarily in Guatemala's top level, for teams like Xelaj, Cobán Imperial, Puntarenas, and Ramonense. Patterson came in at number eight on the list with 35 goals scored in his career. Patterson played just once for the Costa Rican national team in 1993. At age 43, he finally decided it was time to move on.
Márcio, 7th, 40 Goals
Former Brazilian goalkeeper Marcio played goal. Throughout his career, he scored 40 goals, with Atlético Goianiense accounting for 37 of them. Marcio started his career with Bahia and later played for a number of the best teams in Brazil. He made over 390 appearances for Atlético Goianiense, and his goal-scoring prowess attracted many admirers. Marcio stepped down in 2019.

Ivankov is a national hero of Bulgaria and Europe's leading goalie in terms of goals scored. He spent the majority of his career playing in the top divisions of Turkey and Bulgaria. He had a 42 goal scoring record and was a great kicker. Ivankov's finest period was spent with Levski Sofia, when he made 203 appearances and scored 18 goals. Additionally, he made 64 appearances for the Bulgarian national team. After retiring, Ivankov returned to his former club Levski Sofia twice as a goalkeeping coach.
René Higuita, fifth, with 43 goals.
One of the most recognizable goalkeepers of all time is Rene Higuita. His scorpion kick save against England in 1995 will always rank as one of the best displays of athleticism in football. Along with his incredible saves, the former goalie from Colombia also had 43 goals scored during his playing days. He played majority of his games in Medellin and Colombia throughout his career. In the 1990s, Higuita was a consistent member of the Colombian national team, making 68 appearances and tallying three goals.
4. Johnny Vegas Fernández, who scored 45 goals.
The intriguing list continues with a goalie from Peru. Fernandez had a 13-year career and scored 45 goals. He scored during open play in addition to making a contribution from penalties. Fernandez primarily played for Peruvian clubs throughout his career. It's interesting to note that over the 13 years he played before his retirement in 2017, he made 14 transfers.
José Luis Chilavert is second with 67 goals.
The record for the most goals scored by a goalkeeper on the international level belongs to former Paraguayan Jose Luis Chilavert. Chilavert was a serious danger from set pieces and finished his career with 67 goals. Furthermore, he became the first goalkeeper in history to score a hat-trick. Chilavert also performed in Argentina, Spain, France, and other countries in addition to Paraguay. He left his job in 2004.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has the most goals scored against him. Ceni played in a different league than the other goalkeepers on the list, who have all primarily scored off of penalties so far. He was a nuisance in set-piece situations and scored 61 free kicks throughout his career. Ceni, who spent his whole playing career with Sao Paulo alone, is regarded as the best goalie in Brazilian football. He earned 17 appearances for the Brazilian national team as well. Currently, the Brazilian is in charge of Sao Paulo in Brazil.
