If Manchester United is unable to persuade Frenkie de Jong to move to the Premier League, he is ready to join Bayern Munich this summer.

United and Barcelona have agreed that the Netherlands international will cost €75 million (£63.7 million) up front and an additional €10 million (£8.5 million) in add-ons.

De Jong, who is now on the Barcelona team's preseason tour of the United States, has not officially said that he wants to quit his "dream" club.

Although de Jong, 25, is reportedly unwilling to leave Camp Nou, Erik ten Hag has directed United to keep up the pressure to sign him.

However, Barcelona is still struggling financially and is eager to cut de Jong, one of their top earners, from their wage bill.

The former Ajax player is reportedly attracting interest from Chelsea as well, but according to Sport, de Jong is not interested in moving to Stamford Bridge and would only accept a'sensational' offer from the Blues.

However, the source also states that de Jong is open to the notion of joining Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, where he could routinely contend for championships while also remaining near to his home country.

The opportunity to catch up with Matthijs de Ligt, a former Ajax teammate and buddy who is rumored to be close to joining the German national team, is another additional motivation.

The two standout players on ten Hag's Ajax team that advanced to the Champions League semifinals in 2019 were de Ligt and de Jong, who later joined Juventus and Barcelona, respectively.

However, there is a significant roadblock in the form of Barcelona and Bayern's strained relationship as a result of the former's pursuit of Robert Lewandowski.

The 34-year-old striker has decided to sign with Barcelona, and Bayern Munich is reportedly dissatisfied with how the Spanish club approached the player when he still has one year left on his contract at the Allianz Arena.

With CEO Richard Arnold and director of football John Murtough meeting with Barcelona executives in the city last week, United hasn't given up on trying to sign de Jong.

Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen contracts were completed by the club this summer, and Lisandro Martinez's signing is rumored to be on the horizon.
