NPA CLOSES FUEL STATIONS IN WESTERN REGION FOR CHEATING CONSUMERS

As part of normal operations, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has cracked down on several gas stations in the Western Region that have tampered with their gasoline pumps.

The initiative, which is being led by the Consumer Services Department at the Head Office and the Western regional office of the NPA, was sparked by allegations that certain stations were manipulating their pumps to defraud consumers and increase profits.

This required the unexpected visits to specific gas stations to verify the precision of their pump deliveries to gasoline users.

After the exercise, the team determined that some of the stations were at fault. As a result, they shut them down while they wait for more disciplinary measures to be implemented. Petrol service stations that pump fuel below the legal litre for sale to clients are breaking the law, according to the NPA's Head of Consumer Services, Mrs. Eunice Budu Nyarko.

Later, the team organised an education campaign for the area's petroleum customers. Traders and commercial drivers were admonished by Mrs. Budu Nyarko to uphold their civic duty and report gas stations they believe have changed their pumps in an effort to defraud consumers right away.

They were given hotlines to which they could make complaints at any time. When complaints are submitted within 48 hours after gasoline purchase, the complainant was quoted as saying, "rapid inquiry may be carried out and the truth confirmed before that product is sold out."

The public was also encouraged to "purchase gasoline from functioning filling stations since these stations are routinely inspected by the NPA and hence, the quality of their products can be ensured," according to her advice.

The crew also educated Takoradi Technical University students, market vendors in Jubilee Park and No. 9 Markets, commercial drivers at the market circle, and traders at Takoradi Market Circle on safe LPG usage.

The NPA team outlined the authority's operations, including its duties to the general public and its mission.

In order to prevent accidents, Madam Cindy Andoh-Davies, a Manager at the NPA's Western regional office, pleaded with customers to follow safety procedures.

The Consumer Services Department frequently travels to the regions to inform people about their rights and how to file complaints with the Authority for speedy resolution.
