He may very well feel an overblown pinch of complacency in his frivolous likening of the barrage of calls for his immediate resignation to a nagging and intrusive demand that a father abandon his children in the midst of a severe family crisis. It is only because the Minister of Finance, Mr. Kenneth K. Ofori-Atta, may be too arrogant to think that he could so haughtily support the very people whose fiduciary trust he so royally botched when he and some of his close associates relatives and friends criminally attempted to defraud the Ghanaian tax payers in what infamously became known as the Agyapa Heritage Investment Deal or, properly speaking, the scam.

So the next most logical question becomes: What kind of father figure could Ken Ofori-Atta realistically compare himself to, except one who wasn't concerned with the well-being of his own children to begin with? (See " 'I will not resign as Finance Minister' - Ofori-Atta" Ghanaweb.com 7/16/22). As the headline of this column makes clear, the call for the resignation of the Minister of Finance is not based on a single cause or causative factor, but on the proverbial mountain of evidence pointing to the fact that cousin Akufo-Addo is woefully lacking in the kind of altruism and self-sacrificing leadership temperament that is at this time most needed for Ghana to significantly and progressively move up and forward on the socio-economic development ladder.

Educated at Columbia and Yale universities, the son of a famous economist and statesman, Dr. Jones K. Ofori-Atta, late, Deputy Minister of Finance in the government of the late Prime Minister Kofi Abrefa Busia, is a slap in the face when he claims that the decision of the Akufo-Addo government to seek financial assistance from the Bretton Woods establishment of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was primarily due to such by unpredictable and locally uncontrollable forces and circumstances, such as the global Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, which came almost immediately after the so-called Chinese virus was mitigated. In other words, there has indeed been an unforeseen seismic paradigm shift in global economic affairs that has required Ghana to return to its past uneasy relations with the two Bretton Woods institutions of the IMF and the World Bank.

Fair enough, except that the dirty and repulsive undertones of the details of the failed Agyapa Heritage Investment Scam point to something very different from the traditional image and temperament of a benevolent father than the finance minister would have Ghanaians think he was meant to be. management of their financial affairs and/or fiscal policy. He is also right to note that reasonable people do change their minds from time to time; but of course it is not in the manner of the headless attempt at hocus-pocus in the flamboyantly amateurish manner in which Mr. Ofori-Atta rather brazenly and apparently imprudently attempted to use the E-Levy Act to play. which soon turned out to be a band-aid game with the very complex and sophisticated fiscal dilemma the country was epically confronted with.

All blood knots and ties and family pride aside, the unvarnished truth must be spoken boldly, fearlessly and swiftly without favor or reservation. And it is an inescapable fact that as the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana's Financial Resource Management and Fiscal Policy Initiatives, Mr. Ofori-Atta has irreparably and irreparably failed, and the longer he adamantly remains in the job or blindly keeps President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the helm of financial and fiscal affairs country, the more difficult it will be to defend the gross incompetence of a man whose skills and talent so far look far more impressive on paper or on paper. his biography than the practical reality on the ground.

For a man to appear to be in clinical denial of the fact that he has irreparably failed at his job and must immediately give way to a more capable man or woman is perfectly normal and human, according to professional psychologists. Yet this should in no way blind President Akufo-Addo to the inevitable recognition that what is at stake here and now is his legacy and his image and reputation in the annals and pantheon of post-colonial Ghanaian leadership. those of our leaders and heroes who rose to the occasion when the needs of the times demanded the same instead of needlessly and vainly sacrificing the collective welfare and destiny of the sovereign people of Ghana on the vulgar and mundane altar of nepotism.

If Nana Akufo-Addo truly believes in the possibility of the New Patriotic Party retaining power beyond January 7, 2025, then of course it goes without saying that the former Attorney General and Minister of Justice of Ghana is bound to listen to the serious voices and soulful cries of the Ghanaian people by doing the right thing, which is to either demand the immediate resignation of Mr. Ofori-Atta as Minister of Finance, or immediately expel this obstinate and administratively obstructionist agent from your cabinet. It has also been widely recognized for ages and centuries that "The voice of the people is also the voice of God". Either way, Nana Akufo-Addo must let justice and reason prevail immediately and completely!
