Georginio Wijnaldum of the Netherlands has struggled since leaving Liverpool for Paris Saint-Germain a year ago, and he is frequently chastised by fans and journalists.

Georginio Wijnaldum's time at PSG appears to be over after he was left out of the club's pre-season tour of Japan.

Since joining PSG on a free transfer from Liverpool a year ago, the Netherlands international has failed to win over the club's fans. Despite making 38 appearances for the Parisian club, he was dubbed 'Ligue 1 Flop of the Year' by a French news outlet.

It's not the first time Wijnaldum has been chastised. Last summer, the midfielder revealed the social media abuse he received after Liverpool lost. It was even one of the reasons he left Jurgen Klopp's side for a new adventure at PSG.

Wijnaldum went on to say: "There were two types of fans, in my opinion: those in the stadium and those on social media. The stadium audience was always there for me. Even when they came back. Even though they knew I was leaving, they remained supportive and, in the end, they bid me farewell."

"There was a story that Liverpool made an offer, I refused because I wanted more money, and the fans said, 'OK, he didn't get the offer, so he doesn't try his hardest to win games,'" the midfielder explained. The outcomes were dismal, and everything seemed to be conspiring against me. 'Wow, me again?' I wondered at times. It's a collaborative effort.

"My teammates, on the other hand, never gave me the impression that I had let them down or was taking the p***. The team was in good spirits."

"When things went wrong, they blamed me - that I wanted to leave," Wijnaldum said last July. "If we lost, I was the one who got the blame on social media."

"There was a point when I thought, 'Wow. If they only knew what I did to stay in shape and play every game.' Other players may have responded, 'OK, I'm not fit.' You have players in their final year who say, 'I'm not playing because it's a risk.' I did the inverse."

Wijnaldum was a Klopp regular, appearing in 237 games in just five seasons. During his final season on Merseyside, he appeared in every Premier League match and is closing in on 700 senior appearances for the club and his country at 31.
