Chelsea Transfer News: The Blues were unsuccessful in their pursuit of Raphinha, and Romelu Lukaku has left the club.
After commenting on Raphinha's Instagram post announcing his move to Barcelona, Romelu Lukaku rumbled a few Chelsea fans. The former Leeds United talisman was heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road this summer, with the Blues, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Barcelona all showing interest.
The west Londoners fought hard for the 25-year-signature; old's Todd Boehly reached an agreement with Jesse Marsch's side for Raphinha that, in theory, would have seen Chelsea sign the winger for around £60 million. According to reports, the Blues were once in pole position to sign the Brazilian international, but the Spanish giants waited and swooped in at the eleventh hour.
Despite the fact that the transfer shock was still fresh in his mind and Chelsea fans were still licking their wounds, Lukaku expressed his disappointment at his parent club missing out on the signing. In doing so, the Belgian international, who is currently on loan at Inter Milan but is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2026, irritated many Blues fans.
Lukaku commented a fire emoji on Raphinha's Instagram post announcing his move to Barcelona - and, essentially, the snub of Chelsea - implying his excitement at the deal. It was quickly screenshotted and shared on Twitter, with Chelsea fans decrying the Belgian striker.
If the previous controversy surrounding Lukaku wasn't already casting doubt on his future in west London, it certainly has now. Especially given his thinly veiled jab at Chelsea upon his return to Inter on loan this summer.
Speaking to the press once more, he expressed regret for leaving the Italian giants 11 months ago. "The biggest challenge of my career will be this season here," Lukaku said at an event alongside teammate Nicolo Barella, according to Football Italia. I left. Wasn't it a mistake, Nico?

"I'm glad to be wearing this jersey now; the team knows what we need to do; it'll be a great challenge this season, and we need to keep it up." When I was in England last season, I realized how important Inter is around the world."
