Cristiano Ronaldo's car was photographed at Sporting Stadium as the Man United star replied to a loan claim.
The Portuguese superstar is eager to leave Man United this spring, with a sensational return to Sporting CP being reported on local television 19 years after his departure.
Cristiano Ronaldo's car has been observed at Sporting CP's stadium, following speculation that he will rejoin his former club on loan from Manchester United.
Ronaldo is determined to leave Manchester United this summer, and he has not reported to the club's pre-season tour of Asia due to "family reasons." Despite suggestions that he could replace Robert Lewandowski, whose move to Barcelona was confirmed on Saturday, Bayern Munich ruled out a move this weekend.
After new Blues owner Todd Boehly considered launching an extraordinary bid to sign the Portuguese superstar, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel came out by the idea, making any move to Stamford Bridge highly unlikely.
Ronaldo was "upset" to see his pay cut at Manchester United after each member of the squad was hit with a 25% cut to their weekly wage - with the 37-year-old, the club's highest earner, bearing the brunt of the impact. This was due to the club's failure to qualify for the Champions League, a competition in which Ronaldo is desperate to continue playing.
Sporting, his former club, provides the ideal opportunity for him to do so, having reached the Round of 16 in last year's competition and looking to qualify for another knockout round this season. Sport TV in Portugal reported on Sunday that the Lisbon-based club was negotiating a loan deal for the striker.
It happened on the same day that Ronaldo's car was spotted in the parking lot of Sporting's Jose Alvalade stadium in Lisbon, in a spot reserved for the club's players. The purpose of the visit is unknown, but it has sparked speculation that Ronaldo may return to the club he left in 2003.
Ronaldo's mother, Dolores Aveiro, promised a year ago that she would speak with her son about a possible return to Sporting from Juventus before his eventual return to Old Trafford. Last month, reports surfaced that Sporting had made initial contact regarding a sensational move for Ronaldo.
Ronaldo spent only one full season with Sporting, in 2002-03, as the Lisbon club endured a long title drought while he won trophy after trophy at United, Real Madrid, and Juventus. Sporting won their first Portuguese league title since 2002 last season, finishing second to fierce city rivals Benfica.
Hugo Viana, Sporting CP's sporting director, recently told Sky Sports about Ronaldo's possible return: "I don't think so right now - I don't think it's even possible, but you never know. He can choose where he goes, but you never know what the future holds. I don't want to discuss it, but he has another year left on his contract, so whatever he decides, we'll see."
