Chelsea has given Jules Kounde a transfer boost as the transfer whirlwind affects Barcelona.
Chelsea are ahead of Barcelona in the race to sign Sevilla central defender Jules Kounde, while defensive duo Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta are close to joining the Camp Nou.

Chelsea are becoming very confident that they will beat Barcelona to the signing of Sevilla central defender Jules Kounde.

The two clubs are vying for the highly-rated French international, but the Blues are now the favorites to sign him after completing the signing of Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. The West London club signed the Senegalese international for £33.8 million (€40 million). Chelsea has also signed Raheem Sterling from Manchester City for a fee of £50 million.

There will be a new outfit Chelsea defensive player this season after Barcelona revealed the beginning of Andreas Christensen into their first-team squad expire at the end of his contract at Stamford Bridge, while Antonio Rudiger joined Real Madrid as a free agent after his contract at Stamford Bridge expired.

They have already signed one Blues defender and are hoping to raid Stamford Bridge for defensive duo Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso. Both players have been identified by Xavi as potential members of his new-look defense, and they are also hoping to beat Chelsea to the signing of in-demand Sevilla defender Kounde.

The Catalan giants have signed Christensen, Franck Kessie, Raphinha, and Robert Lewandowski, with Kounde the next big target of their summer spending spree. However, this contradicts their interest in Alonso and Azpilicueta, both of whom will demand first-team football if they leave the Blues.

Despite Barcelona boss Xavi's efforts to persuade the former Bordeaux defender to change his mind and join him at the Camp Nou, reports from the Spanish press have confirmed Mirror Football's understanding that the Blues remain in pole position to sign Kounde.

As currently stands, Barcelona remains optimistic about landing both Alonso and Azpilicueta, which means that four starting defenders will have left Thomas Tuchel's defense this summer. The Blues are still hoping to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Presnel Kimpembe, but Kounde has been their long-term priority.

Sevilla, for there own component, want the sale of Kounde to be completed as soon as possible so that they can reinvest in the squad. This summer, the Andalusian club has already lost central defender Diego Carlos to Aston Villa, while Marcao has joined from Galatasaray.

The club must continue to raise funds this summer in order to improve their financial situation, and they are aware that Kounde wishes to leave this year after being denied an exit a year ago. The player has reportedly verbally agreed to join Chelsea.
