IS 5G WIRELESS SAFE?

The 5G Network is intended to provide faster speeds and low latency wireless broadband services which means faster and higher capacity transmissions to carry the Internet of Things data and other yet unknown technological innovations. 

 

In addition to using current cell towers, 5G’s infrastructure will require smaller antennas spaced about 500 feet apart because the higher millimeter wave frequencies that 5G proposes to use do not travel far.

 

5G will therefore require millions of new radiation-emitting cell towers that the FCC is intending to place on street lights, utility poles and/or mailbox-size transformers in front of our homes.

 

In 2018, the U.S. National Toxicology Program and the Ramazzini Institute in Italy both concluded after conducting large studies that wireless radiation causes cancer.

 

The World Health Organization classified these radiations as class 2B carcinogens. Therefore, 5G infrastructure could be considered carcinogenic and should be paused for further debate.

 

The science also shows 5G and the Internet of Things might harm not only humans but the environment as well as wild life, particularly the bees, butterflies and other pollinators needed to grow our food sources.

 

On top of all that, the Internet of Things is possibly an invasion of our privacy with its data collection and may lead to disastrous cyber security risks for governmental agencies, companies and the public.

 

5G and the Internet of Things are not possible to be labeled as “green" either. Not only will they require astronomical energy consumption, but they will also generate massive E-Waste and over-extraction of conflict minerals from third world countries.

 

California took a leadership role in 2017 by issuing a public health fact sheet called "How to Reduce Exposure to Radiofrequency Energy from Cell Phones." 

 

All of our health agencies should issue wireless technology safety guidelines. Now that the U.S. National Toxicology Program study has proven carcinogenicity, in accordance with statutes that require businesses to inform citizens about exposures to chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm, all citizens should be taught safer handling of wireless technology.

 

California’s cell phone safety guidelines are:

 

1. Keep your phone away from your body. Keeping your phone just a few feet away from you can make a big difference.

2. Reduce or avoid using your cell phone when it is sending out high levels of RF energy. This happens mainly when:

(a) You see only one or two bars displayed.

(b) You are in a fast-moving car, bus, or train.

(c) You are streaming audio or video, or downloading or sending large files.

 

3. Don’t sleep with your phone in your bed or near your head.

4. Take off the headset when you’re not on a call.

5. Don’t rely on a “radiation shield” or other products claiming to block RF energy, electromagnetic fields, or radiation from cell phones.

 

The 5G European Appeal instructed and implemented “a moratorium on the roll-out of the fifth generation, 5G, for telecommunication until potential hazards for human health and the environment have been fully investigated by scientists independent from industry.”  Why doesn’t America do the same?  

 

The US should at least issue public health fact sheets on wireless radiation risks so the public has the right to know and can make informed technology choices.
