New DC United manager, Wayne Rooney, is set to sign one of Manchester United’s struggling stars, Phil Jones, this summer.

Rooney, who was appointed as the Washington-based team’s head coach last week, is eager to bolster his squad this summer.

According to The Sun, Rooney would like to be reunited with Jones at DC United this summer.

Rooney wants to bring in players ‘with a point to prove’ and feels Jones fits the bill perfectly, with the 30-year-old having endured an incredibly difficult time at Man United over the past few years.

He remains a big believer in Jones’ ability as a footballer and wants to ‘rescue’ him from his difficult situation at Man United, having also tried to bring him to Derby County on loan last season.

Rooney and Jones were former teammates at Manchester United.

Jones has been plagued with injuries, making just six appearances in the Premier League since the start of the 2019-20 campaign.

He still has one year left on his contract with Man United.

Man United would be open to selling Jones so as to get his £100,000-a-week wages off the table.
