Right-back RC Lens According to journalist Pedro Almeida, Jonathan Clauss is in advanced talks with Manchester United despite being linked with a move to Chelsea.

Clauss, 29, had previously been linked with Chelsea, with Blues manager Thomas Tuchel looking to bolster his defense. However, it appears that Manchester United are now in pole position to sign the Frenchman.

Pedro Almeida, a Portuguese transfer insider, stated on Twitter:

"Manchester United are in advanced talks with Jonathan Clauss."

The Red Devils are coming off a tumultuous defensive season and desperately need more options at the back. United conceded 57 goals in the league and finished with a goal difference of zero.

Erik ten Hag has already signed left-back Tyrell Malacia and is close to bringing in former Ajax center-back Lisandro Martinez.

Clauss' potential arrival could pit him against Diogo Dalot for a starting spot on Ten Hag's right side.

Last season, the French defender made 40 appearances for Lens, scoring five goals and assisting on 11 others. He has a year left on his contract.

Last season, many Manchester United players had disappointing seasons, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka was certainly one of them.

When he arrived at Old Trafford from Crystal Palace in 2019 for £49.5 million, many tipped the Englishman to become one of the Premier League's best right-backs.

He had incredible recovery speed as well as a strong defensive instinct, putting out most fires when Palace was attacked.

Wan-debut Bissaka's season went well, but his stock has dipped since then. Last season was a letdown for the 24-year-old, who lost his starting spot to Diogo Dalot due to a poor run of form.

Former club Crystal Palace have been mentioned as potential suitors this summer, and that could be the ideal solution for all parties involved. Wan-current Bissaka's contract with United expires in two years, so it will be interesting to see what his future holds.
