There is no denying Ronaldo and Messi's greatness, but some footballers may feel cheated because they were not given the credit they deserved for their achievements. This list includes some of the greatest athletes of all time, and each of them should have won at least one gold medal. Let's take a look at five players who were deserving of the Ballon d'Or more than the illustrious Ronaldo and Messi.
Wesley Sneijder (2010)
Sneijder has never finished in the top three in the standings in his entire career, which is outrageous. After falling out of favor at Real Madrid, the Dutchman was the creative lynchpin of Inter Milan's 2009/10 treble-winning team. Wesley Sneijder made an immediate impact at Inter Milan, helping the team win the Serie A and Champions League in 2010. When the Netherlands reached the World Cup finals in 2010, the Dutchman was a talisman, winning numerous individual honors, and many people were surprised that he did not win the Ballon d'Or that year.
Xavi Hernandez (2009, 2011))
Because of his skill at manipulating games, he has earned the moniker "The Puppet Master." The former Barcelona midfielder was well-known for his superb positioning and ability to pick out the perfect pass at any given time, both for Barcelona and for Spain. Xavi was an important cog in Pep Guardiola's Barcelona midfield, as well as Spain's World Cup and Euro 2016 winning teams. Xavi is one of the game's all-time greats, with more than 180 assists to his name. Despite receiving all of the attention, Xavi may have been more important to Pep Guardiola's tiki-taka style of play in 2009 than Lionel Messi. It was in 2011, when he was possibly the most popular.
Franck Ribery (2013)
Few players in the world are as good as Ribery at this stage of their careers, as he has repeatedly demonstrated in Serie A. During his prime, Francois Houllier posed a constant threat to Bayern Munich. Ribery shone on the big stage in both the United States and Europe, finishing third in 2013 with a clutch pass, quick feet, and an eye for an assist. He was, however, well-deserving of the top prize.
Andres Iniesta (4) (2010 and 2012)
At the very least, he should have been named the world's best player at some point during his country's incredible World Cup and Euro triumphs. While he won the UEFA Best Player award in 2012, ahead of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, he finished third in the Ballon d'Or vote. As a true legend of the game, Iniesta brought smiles to the faces of everyone he met. When it comes to the beautiful game, this Spanish legend is without a doubt the best player who has never received FIFA's Ballon d'Or award.
