According to Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah, secretary-general of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), the Ghanaian economy has to be set up so that people may grow their own food and consume it as well.

 

He believes that major economic reform is necessary in Ghana in order to support local business owners.

 

 

 

On Monday, July 18, Dr. Yaw Baah made these remarks at a news conference while discussing the circumstances of Ghanaian workers in light of the government's decision to request assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

 

 

 

The Bretton Woods organisation, in his opinion, would not assist address the core difficulties facing the economy, hence he rejected the decision to go to the Fund.

According to him, the country's biggest economic challenges stem from corruption and past administrations' failures to change the country's economic structure so that Ghanaians could produce what they consumed and consume what they produced.

 

 

 

He said, "At the moment, foreigners control all of the profitable industries, including mining, petroleum, and banking. Why are there so many Nigerian banks around the nation but I have never heard of any Ghanaian banks in Nigeria is a question I frequently ask my coworkers. These basics will not be covered by IMF programmes. Do you know what IMF programmes do?

"They just serve to get the nation ready for another IMF programme, so you go for one, two, or three, or four up to 18," the speaker said.
