There is little indication that the ongoing Frenkie de Jong transfer drama involving Manchester United will be addressed anytime soon.
De Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona, has been United's top target this summer. As Erik ten Hag begins his first campaign in the Old Trafford managerial hot seat, they are eager to reunite him with the latter.
The Dutchman is available for sale to the Spanish powerhouses, and it's evident that United wants to sign him as their newest player to join Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, and Lisandro Martinez.However, there are reportedly a number of obstacles standing in the way of the agreement, including pay demands and the fact that United cannot guarantee Champions League football for the upcoming season.
Ten Hag discussed his goals in general terms as he seeks to strengthen an engine room that has lost no less than four players this summer.

The 21-year-old truly made a name for himself last season away from United as he assisted Nottingham Forest in being promoted to the Premier League. Garner, who appeared more than 40 times and contributed four goals and eight assists, was a key player in Forest's ascent.
Despite being on Man United's preseason tour, James Garner has not yet played.
It was his second loan to the East Midlands team, but given the far better results of his second appearance and the home club's recent midfield openings, he is in a strong position to contribute at United.
Although a minor injury issue has kept Ten Hag from scouting him in friendlies thus far, that should happen this summer. Given the haziness surrounding whether a deal for De Jong would be reached, many think the United alum would present a slightly different but still advantageous option for the upcoming campaign.
The elevation of Nottingham Forest last year was made possible in large part by Garner.
