Lionel Messi
In the second friendly of their preseason tour, Paris Saint-Germain, the defending Ligue 1 champions, will take on Kawasaki Frontale on Wednesday. The match is in preparation for the 2022–23 season. PSG enters the contest after defeating Quevilly-Rouen 2-0 in their opening preseason friendly on July 15. PSG's upcoming preseason games against Gamba Osaka and Urawa Reds are set for July 23 and 25, respectively.
Will Neymar Jr. and Lionel Messi face Kawasaki Frontale?
While Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. are expected to add goals to their tally during Wednesday's game, Sergio Ramos and Djeidi Gassama scored one goal each during PSG's victory in their most recent match. Having said that, it is anticipated that both footballers will play against Kawasaki Frontale because they were observed practicing in advance of the game. During PSG's practice on Monday, Kyllian Mbappe, Sergio Ramos, and other star players could be seen working out with Messi and Neymar.
Looking ahead to Lionel Messi, Neymar, and PSG's 2021–22 campaign
Both Messi and Neymar need to be at their best during the current preseason trip because they weren't at their peak during the 2021–22 campaign. In the summer of 2021, Messi announced his departure from La Liga champions Barcelona after 21 years and sensational move to Paris. However, he only managed to make an impact in six goals and fourteen assists throughout the course of the 26 Ligue 1 games he participated.
Neymar, on the other side, participated in 22 Ligue 1 games and contributed to 13 goals and 22 assists. The Brazilian superstar did not score any goals in the Champions League during 2021–22, however.Neymar should be brought up because there have been recent rumors that PSG has offered Neymar to Premier League champion Manchester City in exchange for Bernardo Silva.
In the meanwhile, PSG won the Ligue 1 2021–22 championship but fell short in the Champions League. Real Madrid defeated PSG 3-2 on aggregate after both leg matches in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League 2021–22, and Real Madrid ultimately won the competition. Since that time, the French champions have fired manager Mauricio Pochettino and replaced him with Christophe Galtier.
