The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Kwesi Ofori, the outgoing Director General of the Directorate of Public Affairs, has called on Ghanaians to support the police in the fight against lawlessness and ensure the safety of all.
He also advised his countrymen to shun acts of injustice so that their communities could develop and grow.
“You are the reason we do what we do – to serve you and protect life and property. The truth is, we will always do our job better when we do it side by side with you, because policing is a shared responsibility. We all have a role to play in fighting crime and generally maintaining law and order,” he added.
DCOP Ofori stated this on Wednesday during the pull out and farewell ceremony in Accra.
He said police officers enlisted to make a difference for communities, families, victims of crime, the powerless and for "struggling souls who have stumbled through the worst of their lives".
“It was never about financial gain, power or fame. It was for the adventure and for the painful privilege to go to painful cruel places where we want to restore peace, to cast aside all fears and protect life and protect humanity.”
“And I want you to know that despite our very obvious limitations and imperfection as humans, most of the men and women I've had the privilege of working with over the years are just as special as humans can be: humans. of great courage and compassion, men of heroism and humanity; people of bravery and brilliance; people of determination and that precious, old-fashioned thing called duty. For your safety, these gallant men and women gave their lives.”
He said as much as the media expected a lot from the police, they should never get tired of talking about the day-to-day bravery and heroism of the personnel.
“Even their stories demand to be told. They are the real heroes who stand in the gap between you and the enemy,” he added.
Thanked Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police and his colleagues for their unwavering support during his tenure.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Reverend Father George Arthur, Chaplain General, Ghana Police Service, eulogized DCOP Ofori for his professionalism during his years of service.
“Indeed, Mr. Ofori, you have made your mark. Your reports and press releases are clear to all readers and viewers. You projected an image of the service and determination of the serving officers of our time. Your interpersonal relationships were positive and engaging. You have been a spokesman for the Service for many years and have performed admirably.'
“Your words of reassurance to the public at any crime scene or riot control environment: 'The police have it under control; The Police Department will do everything in its power to make the perpetrators portray your professionalism and the hardworking spirit, zeal and determination of the Police Department and its members,” he said.
He therefore advised the personnel to work hard and make a remarkable impact before retiring from active duty.
