Although Cristiano Ronaldo's future at Manchester United is uncertain, according to Bruno Fernandes, the striker needs time and space to work through his personal issues.
Ronaldo, who had a great comeback to Old Trafford last season and scored 24 goals in 38 games, missed the club's preseason trips to Thailand and Australia due to a family matter.
The Portuguese legend notified Manchester United earlier in the month that he intended to depart the team this summer.
Ronaldo is rumored to be dissatisfied with what he perceives as a lack of desire at Old Trafford and wants to play in the Champions League next season.
However, the scenario is far from straightforward because United is convinced that Ronaldo won't be sold and because Erik ten Hag has said he might still stay at the club longer.
The sole communication between the 37-year-old and the United team, according to Ronaldo's Portugal teammate Fernandes, has been about family issues.
Naturally, we must respect everyone's choice, Fernandes said.
"We must respect Cristiano's space. I don't know what he said to the team, to the manager, or what's going on in his head.
According to everything we know, he experienced some family issues, so we must respect his privacy and give him some room to breathe.
"Cristiano was our best scorer last season and contributed goals to us, but obviously it's not my fault; the decision-making rests with the club, and Cristiano makes his own decision."
As I already stated, I have no idea what is going through his mind; if he decides to go, it's all about the news. I didn't enquire about that.
When Cristiano didn't show up, I simply inquired about the family's well-being; he only provided me with the information I needed.
One person who claims to have recently maintained regular communication with Ronaldo is TV host Piers Morgan, who anticipates the seasoned striker to depart Manchester United soon.
In the past week, I've had a lot of interaction with him, Morgan remarked on SPORT news. I firmly believe that Cristiano Ronaldo playing another match for Manchester United is quite unlikely.
I simply believe that he has mentally changed. I won't reveal what we have talked to one another, but as I said at the outset, I don't believe Cristiano believes Manchester United share his goals.
"I think he feels that the additions they're making, the dedication they displayed last season, where they finished, and the lack of Champions League football," says the analyst.
If you're him and your career is winding down but you still want to win significant awards, you need to do the math. Will I complete it if I remain with United?
"I believe he believes the club's top-down organizational structure is incorrect." It's not a criticism of the new manager [Erik ten Hag], whom he respects greatly; rather, it's a true reflection of where United are at the moment.
It's up to him to express his thoughts, but if you're asking, I don't believe he'll stay at Manchester United. I believe he might go in a really unexpected direction.
