WE 'SOLD' CRISTIANO RONALDO AND MANCHESTER UNITED SIGNED £60M STRIKER REPLACEMENT

Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia of the Netherlands have already joined United, and the center-back Lisandro Martinez of Ajax has already been officially confirmed as a player. The club and Dutch international Frenkie de Jong have also reached an agreement, but it is unclear whether he would rejoin Ten Hag following a dispute with Barcelona over deferred payments. 

 

Ten Hag isn't running from his new position though; according to sources, he's targeting players he knows rather than totally turning over responsibility to United's scouting division. The future and potential departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from the club, though, may present a significant challenge for the Dutchman before the season even starts. 

Ronaldo's departure might allow Ten Hag to delve even further if he does.

In order for this simulation to take place, we had to allow Ronaldo's transfer at the opening of the summer transfer window in Football Manager 2022 via the in-game editor. Before the simulation started, we also added De Jong to the team. 

 

The big void left by Ronaldo's departure was filled by Ten Hag's team by spending £60 million on Nigerian international Victor Osimhen. 

Osimhen is undoubtedly one of the strikers who can score goals because of Ronaldo's departure. He has scored at least 10 goals in each of his last four campaigns, including 18 in three of those four, and is a proven finisher with the quickness to seriously trouble Premier League defenses. The ability of Osimhen to generate space and move while off the ball to allow himself the opportunities to score definitely shows out when examining his in-game statistics. The Nigerian is a very well-balanced player overall, and his strength is something pretty uncommon for a player who plays so quickly. 

How did United do without Ronaldo, and how much better were the replacements? 

The Portuguese legend's real-life statistics from last season were still incredible—24 goals in 38 games—but they weren't enough to get United back into the Champions League. But his replacement, Osimhen, more than lived up to expectations. From Ronaldo's former position within the United team, Osimhen totaled 21 goal contributions, scoring 19 goals and dishing out two assists in 36 appearances across all competitions.
