Police stop might have finished gravely - AC Milan defender Tiemoue Bakayoko
AC Milan defender Tiemoue Bakayoko said on Wednesday that Italian police who pulled him from his vehicle at gunpoint this month in the wake of mistaking him for a shooting suspect "obviously put our lives in harm's way".
A video of the 3 July police stop that became a web sensation before this month showed the German defender with his hands up high and pressed to a watch vehicle being searched by a police officer.
The video shows another official pointing her pistol at an unseen passenger still inside Bakayoko's vehicle during the search. After a couple of seconds, another official approaches Bakayoko and the cop tapping him down, says something, and the cop releases Bakayoko.
Following the distribution of the video, Milan police said Bakayoko and his passenger had been pulled over because they resembled the description of two suspects in a shooting case and denied the control was racial profiling.
"The mistake is human, I generally approve of it, then again I disapprove of the way and system that were used," the player said in a video posted on his Instagram account.
"The consequences might have been such a great deal more serious in the event that I had not stayed calm and collected," he said. "What might have occurred in the event that I hadn't gotten the opportunity to finish the work I do and be perceived in time? What might have been the outcome of this?"
Bakayoko said that the video flowing showed "the calmest part" of his interaction with police and asked why they didn't simply ask for the vehicle's registration, "or by simply conveying".
"You need to realize that I ended up with the weapon a meter away from me... They plainly put our lives at serious risk."
Amnesty Italy on Monday said the occurrence reviewed "racial profiling", saying it "might have had serious consequences for an obscure person".
