After becoming pregnant with two female convicts earlier this year, a transgender prisoner in New Jersey's women's only jail was transferred to another institution, according to a local story.

According to Dan Sperrazza, a spokesperson for the state's Department of Corrections (NJDOC), Demi Minor, 27, was moved last month from the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility in Clinton to the young adult jail Garden State Youth Correctional Facility in Burlington County.

Minor, who is serving a 30-year term for manslaughter, is the only woman presently detained in the prison and was housed in the vulnerable area, according to Sperrazza.

According to the newspaper, he was unable to speak further on Minor's living condition owing to NJDOC privacy laws.

According to sources, Minor later claimed that she was beaten by correctional authorities during her transfer in a post on her website Justice 4 Demi on July 15.

The department of prisons informed NJ.com that it is looking into the matter but was unable to provide any additional details.

According to a statement, "NJDOC cannot comment on any current investigations." The safety and security of the inmate population and employees are extremely important, and the Department has zero tolerance for abuse.

The sole women's jail in New Jersey, Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, has been the subject of many sex assault scandals, and Gov. Phil Murphy last year announced intentions to close the institution.

Following a lawsuit filed by a trans person who had spent 18 months in a male jail and the New Jersey ACLU, the state of New Jersey approved a legislation allowing convicts to be placed in accordance with their gender identification in 2021. It was required that the policy be in force for at least a year.

According to Sperrazza, the agency is now examining the policy for holding transgender inmates with the purpose of making small revisions, even though the NJDOC is still operating under it.

The newspaper said, citing NJDOC, that Minor will be eligible for release in 2037.
