Ranking Liverpool midfielders from average to world-class
Here are our tiers for the midfielders playing for Liverpool right now.
Average
Curtis Jones: The Scouser undoubtedly have skill, but he hasn't been able to consistently demonstrate it to the crowd on the field. We are waiting for Curtis to improve on certain facets of his game, such as his finishing and decision-making. Curtis has his moments in spurts.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: When he joined Liverpool, Ox was a dynamic, goal-scoring midfielder, but injuries have cut short his prime years. He won't be a game-changer for the Reds but can still be useful in some contests. He will likely leave as a free agent in the coming offseason.
Good
Naby Keita: Keita made 23 Premier League matches last season with a relatively injury-free season. He still needs to show he deserves the £50 million price tag, though, as his performances are still a touch uneven.
In the upcoming season, hopefully, he will make that step up to the next tier.
Fabio Carvalho: Carvalho has yet to appear in an official game for the Reds, but he has shown promise in preseason. Last season, when Fulham won the Championship, Carvalho was one of Europe's top teenage goal scorers from the midfield position.
Harvey Elliott Elliott's emergence as a major international star appears imminent. Jurgen Klopp and the supporters have high expectations for the brilliant offensive midfielder after an unlucky injury derailed his progress last season and prevented him from finishing strongly after his comeback.
James Milner: Mr. Versatile and Mr. Evergreen will continue to play for the Reds for another year. Although Milner can no longer be counted on to turn the tide of a game, he is still a reliable choice in some games, and the Reds benefit from his wisdom and leadership.
Excellent
Henderson, Jordan The captain of Liverpool is undoubtedly not as excellent as he was during our title-winning season, but Hendo is still a highly capable midfielder who occasionally has the ability to impact games with his passes. Additionally, the squad greatly benefits from his leadership.
If Henderson is able to establish his rhythm and develop into a more reliable center-fielder, it could be the key to our success in the upcoming season. He's still a great player, no doubt about it.
World-class
Fabinho is the center of the Liverpool midfield and is arguably the best defensive midfielder in England since his debut four seasons ago. Liverpool wins games and championships more frequently when he performs well.
Thiago Alcantara: Liverpool supporters got to see the true Thiago last season, when he was our midfield's wizard of invention and wore out opponents with his vision and ball-handling skills. As elite as a midfielder can be, Thiago's imagination and ball-progression abilities are frequently the difference-makers for Liverpool.
