Dawn and Hank worked for over two hours before taking

a break. Sipping on freshly brewed coffee, and eating the

donuts Hank had brought with him. Busy talking about

when they all went to school together. Then Hank became

serious.

"That man loves you, Dawn. I don't know if he's told you,

but he's never gotten over you. Calvin has been living with

a broken heart all these years."

She felt the tears coming and fought hard not to cry. "It's

time he moved on. Find someone to settle down with."

She says with a heavy heart, sadness washing over her.

"It's you he wants, always has. Will you not stay?" Hank

watched as she blinked back tears.

"I can't," she says sadly.

"Don't you love him?"

She could no longer hold back the tears as they starting

flowing. Sitting down on the floor she buried her head in

her hands and sobbed. Gut-wrenching sobs that made her

insides hurt and her body shake. "I do love him, I have my

whole life. It's because I love him so much that I have to

leave."

Hank had no doubt that she truly loved Calvin with all her

heart. It was hard watching her, so broken up and

sobbing. Sitting down next to Dawn he put an arm around

her shoulders. "Now, now, it can't be that bad. If you love

the man, and he loves you, then there ain't no reason why

you can't be together. Surely Paris is not that important to

you."

"I don't care about Paris." She mumbled through sobs.

"Then what is it? What could make you leave the man you

love?" For the life of him, he couldn't figure out what was

going on with Dawn.

She felt as if she had to tell someone, it had been

weighing on her mind for far too long. And Hank was

being so kind. "Calvin wants a family, he wants kids."

"That he does," Hank chuckled. "That's all the man talks

about. Why? Don't you want kids?"

"There's nothing I want more than to be a mother, to

have Calvin's children. But I can't, I can never get

pregnant." She broke down crying again. The pain of never

being a mother was unbearable.

Hank could see how much she was hurting and felt her

pain. "I'm so sorry Dawn. You have to tell Calvin, he loves

you. It's not a deal breaker, it won't matter to him."

She turned sharply towards Hank. "I can't tell him, and

you've got to promise me you'll not say anything to him."

"Ok, I promise. But I really think you should tell him."

She shakes her head back and forth. "No, I won't deny

him the chance to become a father. He'll find someone

who can give the family he's always wanted."

Hank felt sad for both Dawn and Calvin. "You're going to

break his heart all over again when you leave."

"I know, and I'm so sorry about that. Oh God, I never

should have come back here." The last thing she wanted

to do was hurt the man she loved.

Hank held out his hand and helped Dawn to her feet.

"What say we get back to work." Giving her a warm smile.

Another two hours later they were making great progress

when Hank's phone started ringing. They stopped working

so that he could answer it.

"Are you sure? Oh God, I'll be right there." Hanging up he

smiled at Dawn. "Susan's having the baby." The biggest

smiled crossed his face.

Dawn's face lit up with genuine happiness for Hank and

Susan. "Well go to her, she needs you."

Hank started blabbering like an excited kid at Christmas

time. "The baby's coming early. I've got to go. No, wait, I

can't leave you by yourself. I know, I'll take you with me."

Dawn started laughing. He looked like a big old teddy

bear, the way he was pacing and grinning from ear to ear.

"No I'll be fine, besides Calvin will be here any minute.

Now go on Hank, you're going to be a daddy."

Picking Dawn up into a bear hug swung her around. "Lock

the doors, and don't let anyone in."

"Ok, Ok, now go daddy." She said, laughing.

After he left she locked the doors and grabbed a cold

drink from the fridge. The place turned eerie quiet, so she

turned on the radio to break the silence.

Going back to work she kept chipping away for about

twenty minutes when one of the bricks fell to the floor,

inside the hole, she spotted something. Sticking her arm

in all the way up to her shoulder she grabbed the item,

pulling it out. It was heavy and took her awhile.

Dropping the tin box on the table she tried opening it, she

used whatever she could find to pry it open. A Bobbi pin,

a knife, nothing worked. "Damn, I should have brought the

key with me." She said out loud to herself.

"Damn right you should have." A voice growled from

behind her.

Chills ran down her spine. Without turning around she

recognized the voice. Fear gripped her as she slowly

turned around. "Michael, how did you get in here?"

Ignoring Dawn's question he looked over at the old rusty

tin box that laid on the table. His eyes wide with

excitement. "You found it. What a clever girl you are.

Now, where is the key?"

"I don't know," she answered.

When Michael walked towards her she backed away. The

look in his eyes scared her, they were full of evil. "Stay

away from me Michael."

"Tell me where the key is and I won't hurt you." Saying as

he kept moving closer.

"What do you have to do with all of this?" She asked him,

backing further away.

Michael rolled his eyes, becoming impatience. Reaching

into his pocket he pulled out a gun, pointing it at her.

"Shut-up, I'll ask the questions. Now, where is the damn

key?" He said, yelling and waving the gun at her.

"Michael please, why are you doing this?" What's in the

box?" she cried.

Slamming his hand on the table he sneered at her. "My

God, you are so blasted irritating, always asking

questions. Why are you doing this Michael? What's in the

box Michael?" Imitating her. "Now tell me where is the

fucking key?"

Hearing the irritation in his voice she had no doubt that he

would shoot her. "Calvin will be here any minute." She

screamed at him.

He laughed, it was a blood-curdling laugh that had her

cringing in fear. "No, he won't. I made sure of it."

Her heart started racing as fear gripped her, thinking

Michael had harmed Calvin. "What did you do to him?"

She cried out.

"Relax. I haven't harmed a hair on his head, not yet

anyway. I just made sure he'd be kept busy with those

filthy beasts of his." He laughed again. "He'll never get

them all back. Now, I'm only going to ask you one more

time, where is the key?"

She swallowed the lump that was lodged in her throat

when he held the barrow of the gun up to her chest. "It's

back at Calvin's ranch."

Poking the gun deeper into her chest he yelled. "Where at

the ranch? Where can I find it?"

"Inside the house." She replied.

Michael slapped her face so hard she had to grab onto a

chair to stop from falling. "Don't get cute with me. Where

in the house?"

The tears stung her eyes as she rubbed her cheek where

he had slapped her. Looking at him with hate she yelled

back. "Under the kitchen sink."

"That's a good girl. Now sit down and don't try anything

funny."

Dawn listened while Michael talked to someone on the

phone. Telling them where they could find the key.

He then sat across from her, using the end of the gun

traced down her neck to her breasts. "This won't take

long." Staring at her chest he smiled. "I always thought

you had the most amazing breasts I've ever seen."

Spitting in his face she cursed. "Go to hell Michael."

Sitting back down he grabbed a napkin, wiping his face.

"Tell me, Dawn, how long was it before you started

banging the cowboy?"

She looked away, she couldn't stand to look at him for

another minute. "I love him."

Michael stood up abruptly, knocking over his chair and

grabbing her by the throat. "You love him. You bitch. We

were getting married and you cheated on me."

Tears sprang to her eyes when she felt the air being cut

off when he tightened his grip on her throat. "What did I

ever see in you? You're a monster." She choked out.

Michael released his grip on her throat, and they both

looked towards the door when it opened.
