DEPLORABLE ROADS: KWABRE EAST CONSTITUENTS BARE TEETH AT THEIR MP

Residents of Kwabre East in the Ashanti area are upset with their member of parliament because of the state of the roads.

The seat has the worst roads in the area, while making a sizable electoral contribution to the ruling NPP.

The whole Kwabre East Municipality lacks any other tarmac roads save the key Kumasi-Mampongten and Kumasi-Kenyase routes.

The local road systems are getting worse and worse.

Residents claim they have not received fair treatment.

They charged that their parliamentary representative was not doing enough to advocate for road infrastructure.

"In the Ashanti area, we supported the NPP most strongly in the 2016 and 2020 elections, but the government has treated us like we don't exist. Francisca Oteng, our MP, made a campaign pledge to restore local roads, but when we voted for her, she didn't even bother to acknowledge our difficulty. She had better keep her word or else, said Addai Kingsley, a furious constituent.

Some of the locals could think about moving through with the suame craftsmen' tactic of targeting their MP.

"If you're a member of parliament and you don't perform, we'll attack you when you come back to ask for another term. That is a certain approach to get our leaders to do their jobs. Another resident, Isaac Kwakye, told onuaonline that "for us at Kwabre East, our MP should be up and doing else what happened to Kyei-Mensah Bonsu would happen to her."

Francisca Oteng, the local member of parliament, responded to the situation by expressing worry about the condition of the roads but adding that attempts are being made to improve them.

Poor roads are our main concern in this region. The fact that roads are being built elsewhere but nothing is happening here justifies the constituents' rage. Construction workers have left the locations. The good news is that the roads minister has assured me that construction on the roads in the Kwabre East region would commence soon—within this year. Different contractors have been chosen once the contracts were repackaged.

Prior to the election in 2024, citizens anticipate their roads to be fixed.
