What he saw when he got there he became enraged. The
woman he loved was pushed up against the counter.
Michael's one hand clutching her arm tightly, the other
one raised up, ready to strike, but before he had a chance
Calvin grabbed his wrist.
Michael hadn't heard Calvin enter the kitchen, didn't know
until he felt the cowboy's crushing grip on his wrist.
"Didn't your father ever teach you never to strike a
woman?" Calvin hissed.
Michael backed away, rubbing his wrist. "This had nothing
to do with you, it's between me and Dawn. Not any of
your business."
Calvin got in between Michael and Dawn. The two men
were the same height and stood glaring at one another.
"I'm making it my business." Calvin sneered through
clenched teeth.
When Michael backed further away Calvin noticed the
diamond ring laying on the counter, picking it up he
tossed it at the other man. It landed on the floor by his
feet. "Pick it up and leave. Dawn is through with you, don't
ever go anywhere near her again."
Michael was furious, bending down he picked up the ring,
putting it in his pocket. Then looking over at Dawn. "I will
be seeing you again. "You're nothing but a whore that I
wasted my time on."
Calvin raised his fist, knocking Michael to the ground,
then pulled him up by his collar. Putting him up against
the wall, his face almost touching Michael. "Never talk to
her like that again or I'll make you wish you were dead."
Calvin more or less dragged him to the front door,
shoving him out. Michael landed on his rear, the palms of
his hand's hitting the ground. Getting up he cursed Calvin
as he wiped away the dirt. "You'll pay for this cowboy." He
hissed.
Dawn placed a shaky hand on Calvin's arm. Her heart was
racing with fear. She had seen Michael mad before, but
nothing compared to this moment. The look in his eyes
was frightening, so full of anger and hate. She just knew
he was going to do something terrible.
Seeing how pale and shaken Dawn was pulled her into his
arms, holding her tight as he tried to reassure her
everything would be ok.
Burying her face in his chest broke down crying. She was
so grateful that he was there, making her feel safe and
protected.
Hank walked over to the pair and patting her arm asked.
"Are you ok Dawn? Did that man hurt you?"
She shook her head. "No. I'm ok."
They all watched as Michael went roaring out the
driveway, dirt, and gravel flying up when he spun the tires.
"That's one angry dude," Hank said.
---------------------------------------------
Dawn felt totally drained. Telling Michael, she was
breaking off the engagement was one of the hardest
things she ever had to do. He demanded to know why. He
wanted to know if it had anything to do with Calvin. When
she didn't answer and turned away he became violent,
grabbing and shaking her, calling her a whore.
"You whore. How long did it take you before you opened
your legs for him?"
Backing away from Michael she stared at him, unable to
speak. It shocked her to hear him talk that way. And
before, when he dumped her purse on the counter, the
way he was rooting through the contents worried her.
Thinking it was the ring he was looking for pointed to it,
but he ignored it, he kept opening all the compartments.
"Tell me, Michael yelled. "How long have you been
screwing him?" He grabbed her and pushed her up
against the counter, ready to strike until Calvin stopped
him.
------------------------------------------------------------
The two men looked at Dawn, she had gone so pale and
was shaking. Holding her close, his arms wrapped around
her he looked at Hank. "Let's call it a day."
"Right Calvin. Get Dawn away from here for awhile. we'll
finish up tomorrow." Giving her a hug Hank left.
He took her back into his arms, feeling how her body was
trembling. Wanting to cheer her up suggested they go out
for a bite to eat. "How about I take you for a pizza?"
She gave him a smile that melted his heart. It made him
want to protect her all that much more.
"Pizza again. You really do know how to make me feel
better."
Yes, he did know her. He knew how to make Dawn feel
that things were never as bad as they appeared. For some
strange reason pizza seemed to help, even back when
they were in school.
Later that night, after making love to her he held her
close, tenderly stroking her back, planting little kisses
along her neck.
A great sadness loomed over Dawn. She would miss
Calvin, miss his arms around her, the way he protected
her. As much as she loved him, and knowing he loved her
she had to leave, not for her sake, but for his.
Sensing something was still bothering her, he propped up
on his elbow, stroking her cheek in a loving gesture.
"What is it? What are you thinking about?"
"Michael." She answered sadly.
"Forget about him, he's out of your life."
Dawn sat up. After a moment she decided to tell Calvin
what went on in the kitchen before he got there. "Michael
didn't seem that upset when I told him it was over
between us. He was more concerned about where the
mystery key was and if we found what it opens."
She stopped and choked back a sob. "When I told him I
didn't have the key, and that we hadn't found anything he
became furious. Accused me of lying to him, grabbed my
purse and dumped it onto the counter."
"Yeah, I saw everything on the counter, I didn't he had
done it," Calvin added.
"I told Michael to take his ring and leave. Then you
showed up. Oh God, I was so scared of him, I'd never
seen him like that before."
"You're safe now. I'll never let him hurt you again, I
promise."
She looked at him, her lips trembled. "I think you were
right about him. I believe he has something to do with
what's been happening."
Calvin pulled Dawn back down on the bed and held her
tight against him. "Yes, but what part does he play in all of
this? And what does that key open? Until we find out the
answers you go nowhere without me. Is that understood?"
A warm feeling shot through her heart. It felt good having
someone care about her and wanted to make sure she
was safe. She hadn't felt that sense of security since she
was with him all those years ago. "I don't remember you
being so bossy."
He pulled her closer. "I'm worried about you. I lost you
once, I don't plan on losing you again."
Dawn's stomach tightened in knots. He was talking as
though they would have a future together. She had to set
him straight. "Calvin I--" But he stopped her from talking
when his lips landed on hers. His mouth pressing so hard
as his tongue moved inside her mouth, stirring the fire in
the pit of her belly.
She moaned when he moved from her mouth down to her
breasts, lightly sucking them. He was so passionate and
demanding, she could not resist him, her body wouldn't
let her. There was no more talking, no stopping when she
felt him sliding so easily inside her, their bodies joined as
one.
With every stroke, he could hear her moaning, adding to
his burning desire to devour her, body and soul.
To be continued.
