Kejetia market is in ruins after a pipe burst for the seventh time in six months.
Parts of the new Kejetia Market in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, have flooded again after some pipes in the facility burst, destroying goods worth millions of cedis.
Trading in some areas of the facility was temporarily halted after water from burst pipes flooded several shops in the market on Wednesday morning.
The pipe burst, the seventh time in the last six months, flooding the market and destroying goods, according to traders.
Following the incident on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, over 20 lockable shops were seen drenched in water.
According to OTEC News Kwame Agyenim Boateng, some of the affected traders who had lost their wares for the fourth time due to the pipe burst at the location where the incident occurred today were crying their hearts out.
The traders complained that the frequent pipe bursts were negatively impacting their businesses.
They are thus urging the facility's management to take practical steps to ensure that such heinous incidents do not happen again.
Meanwhile, Patricia Acheampong, the Organizer of the Combined Kejetia Traders Association, stated that the recurring floods are having a negative impact on the traders.
"This is not the first time such an incident has occurred; it is at least the seventh this year."
"Our members are furious, which is why we are demanding that the city compensate them in order to waive the huge losses caused by the pipe bursts." She stated.

Mr Jinapor had introduced a Wildlife Bill as well as legislative reforms to revise and consolidate laws governing wildlife and protected areas.
He stated that between 2017 and 2021, the government cultivated a total of 547,891.7 hectares of degraded forest lands.
Mr Jinapor urged everyone who planted trees during Green Ghana Day to continue nurturing them until they reached maturity.
