I FORGOT MY NEW ROLE AS NPP GENERAL SECRETARY UNTIL BAWUMIA CALLED ME ‘GENERAL’

According to Justin Frimpong Kodua, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) recently elected general secretary, his realisation of his new position only came after a meeting with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The winners often need some time to adjust to their triumph and the additional responsibility that comes with it following an election.

This is frequently caused by the style of the elections and whatever difficulties the candidates may have had.

Following a courtesy call to the Vice President on Tuesday, Justin Frimpong Kodua, often known as JFK, claims he was reawakened to his job as the leading writer of the ruling party.

On Wednesday, July 20, he discussed this in an interview with Evans Mensah for PM Express.

"I only realised or started to recall that I was the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party yesterday, on Tuesday. Around five o'clock in the afternoon.

"We had that conversation, and everything went well, so the newly elected national executives proceeded to visit His Excellency the President. After that, we made the decision to visit the vice president in his office, according to Mr. Kodua.

We were already seated when he entered, he continued. And I recall that the 3rd Vice Chairperson, the 2nd Vice, the 1st Vice, and I were seated closer to the gate before the chairman . So after wishing them well, he said, "General"! General, he said. And I said nothing in return. I was drawn in by the first vice chairperson. I said, "Wow," realising that I was now confronting reality. According to Justin Kodua, "I am the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party.

When asked how he is feeling about his most recent assignment, Mr. Kodua responded that he does not feel at all overwhelmed.

He describes him as a highly upbeat guy who enjoys taking on new tasks, making him well-suited for the work at hand.

"I'm a person who enjoys challenges and is quite adventurous, so if an opportunity arises, I don't consider the cons. I don't consider how difficult the issue is or whether I will fail. I'm not cynical, he clarified.

He referred to his first appointment as the head of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), noting that it was his first job in the public sector and that he lacked any prior expertise in the field.

However, Mr. Kodua claimed he was able to become familiar with the Agency's workings and eventually overcame the difficulties presented by the Agency's contentious past.

This, he said, is proof of his capacity to accept and overcome new obstacles. Later, Mr. Kodua reaffirmed his willingness to assist the NPP in winning the general election in 2024.

At the NPP's National Delegates Conference on Sunday, July 17, 2022, JFK defeated the party's outgoing General Secretary John Boadu to win the position.

JFK upset the odds in what was largely seen as a closely contested race to defeat Mr. Boadu by 2,857 votes as opposed to Mr. Boadu's 2,524 votes.

Iddrisu Musah received 104 votes, Ramseyer Ahmed 8 votes, Charles Bissue 12 votes, and Frederick Ansah 50 votes for the other candidates.

Many people found the poll's result unexpected. However, Mr. Kodua claimed in a PM Express interview that he went into the polls with optimism and was certain of winning right away.

While this is going on, some people are still debating how the race turned out and why John Boadu was unsuccessful.

But according to a report by JoyNews' Paa Kwesi Schandorf, Mr. Boadu lost because, among other important concerns, he didn't care about the party's grassroots.
