After ten years, the late President John Evans Atta Mills' brother has revealed for the first time what may have contributed to the stateman's passing.
Many Ghanaians, notably Koku Anyidoho, a former advisor to the late president, have questioned John Evans Atta Mills' passing. After they questioned his rationale for making alterations to his burial without their knowledge, Mr. Anyidoho dared the family to go public with the information.
On July 24, 2012, in the 37 Military Hospital, the late President passed away.
In an exclusive interview with JoyNews on Thursday, the late President's brother and MP for KEEA Samuel Atta Mills revealed that the late President had a sinus illness in 2005.
According to Cleveland Clinic A sinus infection is an inflammation of the sinuses that may result in fluid buildup and obstruction. Colds or allergies are the common culprits. The obstruction might lead to an infection.
Samuel Atta Mills claims that his brother's health kept becoming worse as a result of the medical problem, forcing him to undergo radiation and chemotherapy.
He added that his brother's death was caused by complications from all of these health problems.
"We are happy with how he was slain. He has experienced nasal issues. If anyone is interested, that was in 2005 or 2006, and he had to do it because it had persisted for a while. He had to undergo radiation and chemotherapy, and all of those difficulties were a part of it, he revealed.
The MP has also answered to Koku Anyidoho, the director of the Atta Mills Institute, who asked about the late President's autopsy report.
Samuel Atta Mills stated on Upfront on Wednesday that Mr. Anyidoho has no right to request the autopsy report.
"For the family, the autopsy report is personal. Is he related to you? What right does he have to demand an autopsy report? We proceeded to AMA with the autopsy report that we had obtained from the 37 Military Hospital.
We had to carry the autopsy report over there since Professor Mills was buried there with a death certificate from the AMA. They gave us the burial certificate at that point. He said, "What is his business asking?
