Dani Alves is set to leave Barcelona after condemning Xavi's brutally decision.

The Brazilian right-back was released from his contract with Barcelona at the end of the season and is now set to join his new club on a short-term basis.

Dani Alves is set to join Mexican club Pumas as a free agent after hitting out at the manner of his exit from Barcelona.

Barca did not extend the short-term contract of Alves even though the veteran right-back was hoping to stay at the club for at least the first half of next season to keep his World Cup dream alive and has left him searching for a new club this summer.

The veteran Brazilian became the first signing of Xavi Hernandez at the Camp Nou last season but did not have his short-term deal at the Camp Nou renewed, despite making 17 domestic appearances in the run-in of the campaign – leaving Sergino Dest as the only other specialist right-back in their squad.

The correct is now set to join Mexican club Pumas on a short-term contract in order to play regular football ahead of the World Cup in Qatar and be considered for a call-up to his career's final major tournament.

Mexican retailer According to the Record, Alves has agreed to terms with the club, with the player earning $100,000 (£4.8k) per game. The club is hoping that the Brazilian will play 10 matches for Pumas in the Apertura 2022 over the course of his contract.

According to reports, Alves' decision to join the club was not motivated by money, and his primary goal is to maintain match fitness ahead of this winter's World Cup. However, in order to cover the deal, Pumas will need to secure new sponsorship deals.

As he criticized the manner of his departure earlier this summer, Alves accused Barcelona of "not caring" about those who made history for the club. It was the player's second stint at the club, having left in 2016 after a glittering, trophy-laden first spell.

In an interview with The Guardian earlier this summer, the Brazilian bemoaned his departure at the end of the campaign, saying, "The only thing I didn't like was how my departure was handled." He continued, saying: "This club has made mistakes in recent years. Barcelona is uninterested in the people who have made history for the club. As a Barcelona fan, I would like to see the club do things differently."
