The World Cup champion was acquired by Man Utd from Real Madrid for £34 million last summer.
Raphael Varane spoke with the media about his choice to join Manchester United.
Raphael Varane, a defender for Manchester United, claims he has no regrets about his £34 million transfer to Old Trafford.
After coming in second place to Manchester City the season before last, United made a triple statement of intent by bringing in Jadon Sancho and Varane during the subsequent summer transfer window. They then went above and beyond to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to the stadium where it all started on a global scale.
Nevertheless, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired in November when a title charge collapsed despite luring these well-known recruits. The fact that United's five-year trophy drought continued under Ralf Rangnick and they were unable to qualify for the Champions League prompted yet another managerial change.
Varane, 29, established an unrivaled reputation for success over his nine seasons at Real Madrid, winning three La Liga championships and four major European tournaments. Of course, he also played a significant role in France's victory at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, which came soon after their defeat at the hands of England in the Euro 2016 semifinals.
Varane's debut season at United was plagued by injuries, and he was only able to make 28 appearances in all competitions. This season, he will have competition for a spot in the back line from Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and newcomer Lisandro Martinez, but the Frenchman is sure that Old Trafford is the ideal environment for him.
Speaking to BBC Sport during the club's preseason tour, he said: "In football, you have to challenge yourself and try to get better. After 10 years in the same place, I yearned for a new experience.
Have no doubt about my decision from last summer, I think the Premier League is simply terrific, and Manchester United is a great club.
