Barcelona thumped Inter Miami 0-6 at the DRV PNK Stadium to start their preseason tour of the US in spectacular form.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang gave Barça the early lead, and Ansu Fati and Raphinha added goals in quick succession to make it 3-0 at the break.
At halftime, Oscar Hernandez, who was filling in for his brother Xavi, who was unable to go to the US owing to visa complications, made significant adjustments.
But Barça kept their intensity and goals from Gavi, Memphis Depay and Ousmane Dembele meant that the Blaugrana secured a thumping 6-0 victory over the MLS franchise.
Speaking after the game, Oscar Hernandez said: “This was my first match as the head manager, but I hope it was the last. Xavi has suffered and I hope he solves the passport situation soon.”
The Barcelona coach was full of praise for new signing Raphinha, saying:
“Raphinha is a top winger. He starts from wide, cuts inside and creates danger from there. He can shoot from long distance and help us press.”
Oscar also highlighted the return to action of Ansu Fati, stating:
“Ansu’s return to form is a big deal. He’s a top player and we’re very happy to see him back in action.”
New signing Robert Lewandowski was not part of the squad against Inter Miami. But Oscar Hernandez insisted that he would be a huge addition to this Barça side.
“The signing of Lewandowski is a big leap in attack for us. He’s a reference player in attack. The club made a big effort when bringing him in.”
The signings of Raphinha, Dembele and Lewandowski have left Barcelona with a plethora of attacking options with plenty of variety. And Oscar Hernandez believes that such depth is a good thing for the team.
“Having this many forwards is not a bad thing. In fact, it’s a blessing for us. The competition will make the team better,” he said.
Barcelona will next face arch-rivals Real Madrid in an El Clasico in Las Vegas. The team will be keen on putting up another stunning display like this one. By that time, Xavi is also expected to travel across the Atlantic and link up with the squad.
