According to the Ghana Institution of Geoscientists (GhIG), it is crucial to address environmental problems that are endangering the nation's natural equilibrium.

Crisler Akwei Ankrah, the institution's national general secretary, claims that the graduating student members have the necessary abilities to alter how the environment is managed.

He announced this at the Department of Earth Science's 2022 Job Fair, which was held at the Yiri Lodge on the University of Ghana's Legon Campus.

"This, in our opinion, will go a long way to supplement but may not be the full cure for the degrading behaviour and careless treatment of our environment and the exploitation of our natural resources in particular.

On Wednesday, July 20, he remarked, "We think the passing of the Geoscience Act would put us in a stronger position to send individuals like you [students] out there to carry out the objective of taking excellent care of our exploration, exploitation, and the maintenance of our environmental regime."

The organisation is going through a strategic reorganisation in relation to its mission and the legislative framework that will enforce the effort to regulate geoscience practise, as well as the growth and welfare of its members.

He said that the Ghana Institution of Geoscientists will soon submit a draught of the Geoscience Act to the office of the Attorney General for review and go through all necessary formalities in order for the legislation to be approved.

We are currently in the draught stage of our Act, which will soon be finished. It is being reviewed by various stakeholders and at various stages, as well as the membership as a whole, and will soon be presented to the Attorney General for consideration before ultimately becoming an instrument that enables GhIG to carry out its mandate.

The employment fair gives continuing and final-year students a chance to engage with, learn from, and get firsthand information from national industry leaders.

The event, among other things, is a component of strategies for giving students more practical, theoretical, and professional training.

Edward Adatsi, a representative of Global Mining-Tech Company, Imdex Limited, exhorted pupils to hone their presenting abilities and the will to take advantage of opportunities as they arise

At the end, he shared a moving account of how, in the midst of a serious unemployment crisis, he managed to land his present position.

"Jobs are hard to get by right now, so you won't even obtain one if you're not eager to take on any opportunities. My background is in geology, and I completed a master's programme in geological engineering. Imdex called [after school], but there were no open positions. I thought to myself, "Why not? I'm a graduate, I can give a presentation." He revealed.

The School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (UG) oversaw the employment fair, which was sponsored by Azumah Resources Limited (ARL), Intertek Minerals Ghana Limited (IMGL), Sahara Natural Resources (SNR), and Ankrah. Schlumberger, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, and Associates Ltd. (A&A) (GNPC).

The aforementioned businesses grabbed the opportunity to thank the Department of Earth Science profusely for the graduates it produces each year.
