Frenkie de Jong has been urged to choose Chelsea over Manchester United this summer, if he leaves Barcelona.

The Dutch midfielder has been a long-term target for United this window, with Erik ten Hag making him the club's primary target, but the move appears to be no closer to happening.

Despite previously stating that he was flattered by their interest, reports from Spanish outlet Sport suggest that he has no desire to join the Red Devils and would rather join Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Chelsea to seize the initiative, telling talkSPORT Breakfast: 'I've been talking about Manchester United not being as strong a pull for a while now, and their fans don't like it.' They can't deal with the truth.' De Jong does not want to leave Barcelona and join Manchester United. There have been reports that he would rather play for Bayern Munich or Chelsea.

'Because if I had to choose between Chelsea and Manchester United in the Premier League, I'd go with Chelsea.'

Barcelona has made no secret of its desire to sign De Jong, who has been United's top target all summer, with club executives Richard Arnold and John Murtough recently spotted in the Spanish capital attempting to strike a deal.

Despite the fact that de Jong does not want to leave, the Catalan giants must remove him from the wage bill in order to register new signings Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Franck Kessie, and Andreas Christensen.

He is said to have serious concerns about how United operates, with the player believing that management operates 'erratically.'

Furthermore, he is 'not closed' to a move to Stamford Bridge given Chelsea's Champions League football and is said to appreciate the 'project' and'structure' being built under new controlling owner Todd Boehly.

'They've got problems, and it'll take them a while to get a chance to win the Premier League or the Champions League,' Agbonlahor added.

Is De Jong interested in moving from Barcelona, which will compete in the Champions League, to Manchester United, which will not?'
