WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS THING TO ME

"Why are you doing this to me?"

"Because you're heartless," the voice echoed.

Ella stared at the silhouette in silence and shock. She so much wished that this was a dream. She closed her eyes and opened them but reality still stared at her through the lizard doing push up to attract his crush at the windowsill.

Ella looked at the figure and was still stupefied.

She opened her mouth to speak but no sound came out of it.

As the person who kidnapped her stepped forward and slapped her, Ella wanted to raise her hand to slap the person back but couldn't because they were tied with a rope. Ella would've also tried to kick, but her legs were also tied.

Inside her father's house, her mother, Nnenna, was anxiously pacing tro and fro.

"Calm down. I've already reported it to my police friend that my daughter was missing," Chester said and relaxed himself on the settee.

"I told you not give her your patrimony. I warned you."

"This isn't about the property." Chester looked away because even him couldn't believe what he just said. How can he believe that his daughter who went missing just a day after he gave her his inheritance, was just an ordinary kidnapping.

It's unfair to give his inheritance to her but it was his property, and he gives it to who ever he wants. His sons, who were older than Ella, but was born by his first, but, dead wife, could do what ever they like but if anything where to happen to Ella, they will all pay for it. Surely!

Nnenna sauntered to where her husband was sitting and crossed her hand against her breast.

"You're saying that this wasn't about property, but you know that you're lying to yourself. You know it!" She smiled bitterly and stormed away.

That night when my brother came back from Ella's house, he was very angry. For days, my brother refused to eat.

He spent most of his days outside, searching for his best friend, Ella. The day that Ellas' half brother came back from the trip which they took just the day that Ella went missing, my brother went to their house and fought with them.

The lover boy, who the person he loves doesn't even know, went and fought three men! When he came home, he'd already lost three teeth, but he wasn't bothered about it, rather, he's more concerned about where our only sister, Nneoma, went to.

"How does that concern you?" Nneoma asked, and hit the wall with clenched fist.

"I said where are you coming from?" My brother repeated, this time it was more of a bellowing.

Nneoma whirled around to leave but my brother tugged her arm.

"Where is Ella?"

As soon as this question was asked, Nneoma started to laugh.

"You think that she will ever marry you? She doesn't love you and you know it. She just took you as her friend. No feeling attached, and you know it."

"Where is Ella?"

"And why do you think that I was the one who kidnapped her?"

"It's very simple," said my brother, "because you're dating her elder brother, whom, was supposed to receive their father's patrimony instead of Ella."

"Now, you made a point." My sister smiled. "So you knew that she was trying to take her brother's birthright? So you knew it!"

"So that's why you connived with your boyfriend to kidnap her?" My brother asked through clenched teeth.

"And who are to ask me this question? Her boyfriend?" Nneoma patted her chest in a soothing motion, trying to stop herself from laughing but at last, she laughed, and I saw my brother grinding his teeth. "Let me tell you something. You should even be happy that she was missing, because if she successfully resume her position at her father's company, she will never put up with you."

"A low class!" She added and that gave her a repeated blow from my brother. Nneoma was sobbing when she entered her room. While my brother went out.

As I was peering through the curtain that I drew slightly, and slowly, to one side, I contemplated about going to give my sister, Nneoma, a crying shoulder but at the end, I just went out through the back door.

That same night, Ella received some hot slaps because the person who kidnapped her was angry.

The following morning, everyone sitted, was waiting for Chester, the host, to make the opening speech but he couldn't.

The man was dying inside but he refused to cry while my brother was already crying. Ellas' half brothers was just pressing their phones. When Chester, their father, asked them why they're pressing phone at this challenging moment, they said that they were utilizing their connections in an effort to find who kidnapped Ella.

Nobody believed them. Not even their father and certainly not their stepmother, Nnenna.

Even I do not believe either, but as I was sitted next my sister, Nneoma, I was more interested in my brother who was the only one crying, except Nneoma, who had stopped crying.

It's ridiculous how my own brother, brought a five years old me to this place as a suspect.

For about thirty minutes, nobody made a sound, except the sobbing sound coming from my brother.

We'd already grown tired when the police men came and said that they still couldn't find Ella.

They don't even have a lead.

My brother jerked up and bellowed at the police men, after that, he angrily left.

I looked at the police men that were saying that they will try their best, and smiled mockingly.

This whole thing would've ended if the police had, just as I'd done, secretly followed my brother when ever he said that he was going to search for Ella.
