After going missing a few days ago, Miss Niamatu Sumaila, a teenage student at the Basissan Basic School in the Sissala East Municipality, was discovered dead under a tree.
The incident was reported to the Tumu Police by Alhaji Pio Sumaila Yakubu, the Paramount Chief of the Banu Traditional Area.
She was discovered dead in Kpari, close to Basissan, behind a tiny tree. A search party was sent to the area.
The girl was found resting under a tree by Dr. Charles Agyekum Woode, the Medical Director at the Tumu Municipal Hospital, who visited the scene together with the Police and locals. Her father, Mr. Braimah Chiraseh, eventually recognised her as his daughter.
Despite the fact that the body had no signs of violence, according to Dr. Agyekum Woode, an autopsy would be performed on the dead, and a report on the severely decomposed body would be presented in due time. It was then given to the family for burial.
Niamatu Sumaila was expelled from school on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, according to Mr. Seidu Hudu, Assembly member for the Banu Electoral Area, who described the event to the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
She set out into the jungle to seek for some veggies called as foga in the local dialect after preparing some rice for the family.
He claimed that at around 1900 hours, the deceased's parents came home from the farm and learned that she had gone to the bush to get some veggies.
The assembly member added, "The search team walked around and noticed a site where she wrestled with her killer (s), kept her beneath bushes, nude with only her shirt on, and then covered her with some leaves. Her pants and waist were found shredded and tossed everywhere.
The murder of the schoolgirl adds to another horrific killing of a gold trader, Mr. Zakaria Borsuwie Luri (Zak Sissala), who was assassinated on April 2, 2022, in the same Banu Paramountcy by suspects in an armed robbery. The police have not yet identified the perpetrators in that case.
The police cited the lack of structures and supplies at Banu, which is about 50 kilometres from Tumu, as the reason for abandoning a post they had set up there with a barrier to maintain security in the region.
