Germany remains on the track for the title of the ninth European Championship but was made to work hard for a 2-0 victory over Austria to reach the Euro 2022 semifinals on Thursday.

Austria crashed into wood three times in London, but goals from Lina Magull and Alexandra Popp sent Germany to meet France or the Netherlands in the semi-finals.

Germany has advanced through what seems to be the hardest group with convincing victory over Denmark, Spain and Finland to reach the last eight styles.

But they were made to sweat up to a strange 90th Popp goal, when he charged Clearance Manuela Zinsberger, giving room to breathe the side of Martina Voss-Tecklenburg.

Austria has proven that they are an awkward opponent by encouraging Britain along the way in a 1-0 defeat on the night of the tournament opening and eliminating Norway at the group stage.

Irene Fuhrmann's side began strongly when Julia Hickelsberger-Fuller fired too close to Merle Frohms before Marina Georgieva headed for the post from the corner.

Germany struggled to find the spirit of attack that made them score nine goals without reply in the group stage.

But they pounced on a mistake from Austrian defense when Klara Buhl drove to the left wing and the cross was calmly placed in a distant corner by Magull for his second goal in the tournament.

Austria needs Arsenal goalkeeper Zinsberger to keep them in the game before rest when he dares to block the strong efforts of Svenja Huth from a narrow perspective.

Five years ago, Austria disappointed the opportunity to reach the semifinals in the only previous large tournament at Euro 2017.

And they can match the achievement with more luck in the second half.

Barbara Dunst is a few inches away from capturing Frohms from his line with a brave effort from a distance that returns from the crossbar.

Sarah Puntigam then destroyed the inside of the post when Germany struggled to clean the corner.

But Germany quickly regained their calm and should extend their advantage long before Popp's fourth goal of the tournament.

Giulia Gwinn curled up the postal effort before Pitedriver Buhl crashed back the crossbar.

Buhl was then guilty of one of the tournament's mistakes when he leaned wide from Popp Pass that was not selfish.

Bayern Munich wing player was ridiculed by his own teammate when the loss was displayed on a big screen.

But Buhl could immediately breathe easily when the Popp press caught Zinsberger coming out when his permission recovered from the Wolfsburg striker into the net
