Report: After rejecting Tottenham in 2021, player now told he can leave following poor season
In 2021, Tottenham made attempts to bring Ilaix Moriba to the Premier League, as the 19-year-old sought to leave Barcelona. Fabio Paratici – Director of Football at Spurs – had only recently been appointed by Daniel Levy at the time, and he suffered his first defeat in N17 after the Guinea international rejected Tottenham for RB Leipzig. However, things didn’t go too well for Moriba in his debut season with the German side. The teenager made just two Bundesliga appearances before he was loaned to Valencia, where he completed 90 minutes on just four occasions in La Liga. Now, RB Leipzig are prepared to let him depart once again. What’s the story? Well, according to Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig are now prepared to let the Guinean leave on loan again. It comes after some claimed that Moriba was also struggling in training with the Bundesliga side. In the kindest way possible, it seems Tottenham may have dodged a bullet. There was also some bizarre claims that Moriba asked club physios to bring him grapes while he received massages, which was said to have angered RB Leipzig. Hopefully, he can turn his career around in Germany, although it seems he will have to do so by impressing elsewhere as another loan move beckons. Tottenham must trust their Ilaix Moriba alternative After missing out on Moriba, Spurs turned to another talented midfield prospect in Pape Matar Sarr, who joined from FC Metz in a deal worth £14.6m last summer. The 19-year-old was loaned back to FC Metz, where he made 33 appearances in Ligue 1 last season. Now, it is time for Antonio Conte to trust the teenager, and help him realise his vast potential in north London. Of course, competition is fierce in midfield following the arrival of Yves Bissouma, but with Champions League football on the schedule as well as the domestic cup competitions, Spurs must find time for Sarr.
