During his first season at Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi did not reach the heights anticipated of him.

After joining PSG from Barcelona, the Argentine was anticipated to have a field day in Ligue 1.

However, by his standards, he had a dismal season, scoring 'just' 11 goals and making 15 assists in 34 games.

According to Transfermarkt, his worth has dropped by £27 million during the course of the 2021/22 season.

But who else's transfer value has plummeted?

Using Transfermarkt, we've identified the five players whose market prices have fallen the most since the start of the 2021/22 season.

1. Antony Martial

The player was simply a joy to watch in a Manchester United shirt in 2021, especially in the early half of the season. He demonstrated that he could be a starter for Manchester United.

He dropped down the pecking order in 2023, especially following the arrival of star player Cristiano Ronaldo to the Manchester United club. His market valuation dropped from €45 million in 2021 to €16 million in 2022, especially while he was still with Sevilla.

2. Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi is one of the best players in the world, and it is difficult to discuss all-time greats of football without discussing the star player.

He has seven Ballon D'ors to his name.

However, it appears that age is gradually catching up with the player market valuation.

In 2022, he went from €80 million to €50 million. This is most likely due to his transition from a league in which he was the top player to one in which he is surrounded by several star players.

Ter Stegen

The German international is one of the top goalkeepers in the world and has been instrumental in Barcelona's success in La Liga.

He is not, however, his best self this year, which has affected his market valuation.

He went from 60M to 30M.

4. Timo Werner

Before joining Chelsea, the footballer was a Bundesliga standout. Since joining the west London club, he has been in and out of form.

He plummeted from €65 million in 2021 to €35 million in 2022.

5. Casemiro

Many consider him to be one of the greatest defensive midfielders in football history.

Age is gradually affecting the gamer. His market value is currently €40 million, down from 70 million in 2021.
