Man United's 2022/23 Midfield Options That Would Help Them Challenge For The Premier League Title

Manchester United is now rebuilding their team after going trophyless last season despite signing Cristiano Ronaldo. According to various internet claims by sports journalists, the club has released several great players after they refused to extend their contracts for personal reasons.

Regardless, I decided to write this post to showcase the club's midfield alternatives for the 2022/23 season.

1. Fred, Christian Eriksen, and Bruno Fernandes - Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag may decide to pair new signing Christian Eriksen in midfield with Fred and Bruno Fernandes next season in order to compete for the Premier League title.

2. Fred, Donny Van De Beek, and Bruno Fernandes - Due to his performance at Ajax a few seasons ago, Erik Ten Hag may decide to rest Christian Eriksen and start Donny Van De Beek instead.

3. Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen, and Bruno Fernandes - Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag may also select Scott McTominay alongside Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes. While Eriksen and Fernandes will play in the attacking midfield positions, McTominay will help the team's defenders in the defensive midfield positions. For further information, please see the image below.

Which of the midfield options shown above do you believe Manchester United should deploy to fight for the Premier League championship next season?

Liverpool Told They Will Have To Pay £40M+ For Potential Thiago Successor

This week, Liverpool were linked with a bid for Sporting player Matheus Nunes, and they now know how much they'll have to pay to get his talents. Despite rumours that the Reds have completed their incoming business for the summer, it appears Jürgen Klopp is still looking for further midfield competition.

Matheus Nunes is one of the guys they are considering.

Liverpool would have to pay a total of £42.7 million to sign the player, according to Record.Today, the Liverpool club was linked with Florian Neuhaus, a player with a similar profile to Nunes.

Both are more of a deep-lying playmaker than a box-to-box midfielder. Players who are better at helping to the build-up rather than generating goals or scoring goals themselves.

And Liverpool's pursuit of such players makes sense.

The Merseyside club are planning a move for Jude Bellingham next summer. But, for the time being, Borussia Dortmund is unwilling to sell the youngster. If he moved to the north-west of England, he would be a box-to-box player for Liverpool, playing to the right of Fabinho in midfield.

Nunes, on the other hand, is more likely to fill Thiago Alcantara's slightly more reserved role for the Reds.

Thiago is a player who is approaching his 30th year and has struggled with minor injuries throughout his career.

As a result, he's never started more than 30 games in a season.

And his profile is distinct among the Liverpool squad. And Liverpool does miss him when he is unavailable. Thus, at the age of 31, Thiago will require both a good understudy to play when he needs a rest and, eventually, replacement.

Nunes might be the right man for the job. At 23, he'll be able to learn from Thiago in his first season, with the goal of eventually replacing him in Liverpool's starting lineup.

Liverpool may want to see if they can persuade Sporting to decrease the £42.7 million asking price for Nunes, but signing him would be a good move by the Reds.
