Sekou Mara of Bordeaux is expected to become the Saints' sixth arrival of the transfer season after the team having signed five players this summer.
Sekou Mara of Bordeaux will become Southampton's sixth summer signing, the club has revealed.
The 19-year-old forward is now scheduled to have a physical in the UK before signing a contract with the club, the Saints announced on Thursday night that they had reached an agreement in principle to bring him to St Mary's.
"Southampton Football Club can confirm it has, this evening, reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of talented 19-year-old forward Sékou Mara from Girondins de Bordeaux, subject to a medical exam, obtaining a work permit, and receiving international clearance," the club's statement read.
Mara, a France Under-21 international, will soon complete his medical and sign the transfer paperwork to become Saints' sixth summer signing.
After goalkeepers Gavin Bazunu and Mateusz Lis, German defender Armel Bella-Kotchap, Belgian midfielder Romeo Lavia, and Nigerian international midfielder Joe Aribo, Mara will be Southampton's sixth summer acquisition.
A statement from Bordeaux released on Thursday evening reads: "FC Girondins de Bordeaux confirms the departure of Sékou Mara. The striker from Bordeaux has joined English club Southampton FC in the Premier League.
"Smiling and hardworking, Sékou is a real child of the Scapulaire club. He is now opening a new chapter in his life as a footballer. We will continue to follow his performance across the Channel and elsewhere. We wish him the best for the rest of his professional career."
Sekou Mara: who is she? Newcastle and Leeds wanted the Bordeaux striker, but Southampton was planning to sign him.
Southampton are looking for a new striker and have reached an agreement in principle with highly regarded youngster Sekou Mara, who has performed well for Bordeaux in France.
