IMPORTANT THINGS TO BRING WHEN GOING ON A BEACH VACATION

There are so many things you want to make sure to take with you when you head to the beach. Some are important, some not so much. Some of those things, if you forget them, you'll regret it for weeks to come. Start early to make sure you have everything you need. Don't wait till the last minute to rush around, when you pack that way, you're bound to miss something. A few days before you're ready to leave, you should head out to the drug store, particularly the travel and trial-sized product aisle. Remember, ever since 9/11, airlines started regulating the size of the containers and the amounts of liquids you can put into your bags that go on the plane. 3oz bottles are the maximum size containers allowed on airlines, and most travel-sized shampoos, conditioners, and mouthwashes are just the right size. You'll want to get a container for your soap or a travel-sized bottle of body wash. Make sure you have plenty of suntan lotion, sunblock, and aloe, for the days you forget to put the sunblock on. It might be helpful to have some lip balm with SPF in it also to protect your lips from the sun's harsh rays. If you take prescriptions, be sure to call the pharmacy in enough time to allow the medications to be ready. Ladies, make sure to take “time of the month” supplies along with some pain relievers. Even if you're certain you won't need them, take them. You never know what can happen. And speaking of unmentionables, if you're single and headed to the beach for Spring Break or any other party season, take protection, and use it. Better to be safe than sorry. Something else important you'll want to take on your beach vacation is your clothing, but don't take too much of it. For a trip that's scheduled to last between 7 and 10 days, you'll want to take 3 swimsuits or sets of swim trunks. Ladies that are taking two-piece suits should make sure the tops and bottoms coordinate with each other so they can be mix-matched. They should also make sure to take either 2 sundresses, 2 swimsuit cover-ups, or any combination of the two, just so you have a total of two to act as cover-ups when you need them. Both men and women should take 5-10 pairs of underwear and ladies 2-3 bras. Both men and women need about 6 pairs of shorts, 1-2 pairs of jeans for cooler nights, and about 6 tops, including 2 or 3 dress-up tops for fancy dinners. Don't forget your shoes. Both of you need not take more than 3 pair each. One set of flip flops, a set of tennis shoes, and a pair of dress shoes, fancy sandals will do for women. Accessories are must-haves on the beach also. There's sure to be a couple parties in the sand and who wants to attend one without the proper bling? But don't take anything too valuable or sentimental because if it falls off, finding an earring in the sand is like finding a needle in a haystack. Along with your regular jewelry, make sure to bring along any medical alert bracelets or necklaces you may wear. Since you'll be so far from home, you'll want medical personal to be aware of any conditions you have as soon as they reach you, especially if you're on the beach without friends or family who are familiar with those conditions. A couple final important things to remember when on a beach vacation are money and chargers. You can't get anywhere in the world without money. If you plan on drinking, eating, traveling, or sleeping somewhere other than in the sand, you want to make sure you have your money. Most wise travelers carry a certain amount of travelers checks, which are usually insured by their bank, American cash, and some money in the form of the country they're visiting. The final thing, if you're taking your cell phone, iPad, Kindle, or laptop, make sure you take all necessary chargers, and an adapter. Most countries don't use the same outlets as we do in America, so be prepared. No matter what beach you're going to, just make sure you take everything you need. You don't want to return with a sunburn, holes in your shoes, and nothing but sand in your pockets.
