Could this Jules Kounde transfer saga be the sequel to Raphinha?
Chelsea are stuck, waiting for the green light from Sevilla and Kounde himself before scheduling a medical in London ahead of joining Thomas Tuchel and the squad on the US pre-season tour.
Despite initial doubts about Barcelona's ability to match the Blues' strong financial package presented to Sevilla, there is a belief that they could potentially hijack this deal at the eleventh hour after securing another financial deal to release some funds.
According to reports in Seville, much of the Barcelona talk is nonsense and that once Chelsea's documentation is presented, things will move quickly to a conclusion on a transfer saga that has certainly dragged on since last summer.
Despite not directly commenting on Kounde, Thomas Tuchel clearly wants this deal to be completed because he wants at least 'one' more defensive signing after the 23-year-old is secured.
"Of course, we're looking for guys who can play on the left side," he explained. "Toni (Rudiger) was a left-footed player who played on the left side. Kalidou, who plays in a back four on the left side, could also play there. Let's see what's possible, he suggested.
It's not just about bringing in players for numbers; we also need quality, so we'll make some decisions about players and systems later. We'd prefer to have a left-footer.
While we wait for more information on Sevilla's No.23, the player himself has dropped a social media hint on his Instagram account @jkeey4 about achieving your dreams, in addition to posting some images of himself at the most recent Paris fashion show.
Of course, it should be noted that his reported "dream" destination is Barcelona. Despite this, it was revealed last summer that a move to the Premier League was his ideal next step.

Cristiano Ronaldo's desire to leave Manchester United has hit rock bottom after Barcelona turned him down.
Despite his previous association with LaLiga rivals Real Madrid, the Portuguese captain was approached by the LaLiga giants.
Ronaldo is determined to leave Manchester United this summer, and he has missed the club's pre-season tour of Asia due to "family reasons."
The 37-year-exit old's strategy, however, has become more desperate.
Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, has made offers to top European clubs but has yet to find a buyer.
Atletico Madrid rejected the player because they cannot afford to fund the transfer due to their financial situation, while Real Madrid has no intention of re-signing him.
