5:16 PM: The nationals want "four to five young players" for Soto, said Ken Rosenthal during a Fox Sports interview today. This "monstrous question" consists of stars and/or players who have recently made their MLB debut and, therefore, are under control for several years. Given the size of this expected commercial package, "at this point ... it is not really a negotiation. The nationals say" or express their willingness to reach our price, or we simply go to the next club, "Rosenthal said.
As an example, Susan Slusser, from San Francisco Chronicle, reports that if the giants offer for Soto, the nats would like the left -handed leaflet Kyle Harrison as part of the return. Harrison was the third round of the giants in the 2020 Draft, and its large numbers of 2022 have elevated it in the classification of mid -seasonary prospects: the American baseball has Harrison with 22 qualification in its last list of the 100 Best baseball players, while MLB Pipeline has it 25º.
11:20 AM: during the past week, but the nationals have not been impressed with the offers they have seen so far, according to Brittany Ghiroli of The Athletic. Finding an adequate commercial package for a well -decorated superstar of 23 years is complicated enough, but the nationally owned situation adds another confusing wrinkle.
With current owners, the Lerner family, which is increasingly likely to sell the club, the wishes of any new potential owner must also be considered in any Soto agreement. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, some potential buyers would prefer to have Soto on the list. Since Soto is, with much, the best baseball asset of the NATS, it is not surprising that a new property group desired it in the organization.
It is difficult to imagine that the club would be more attractive to potential buyers without Soto on the list. There is the possibility that a new property group that prefers a clean slate and let the Lerners receive the public relations coup that will come with the traffic of the most popular star of the team. Even so, despite the entire commercial hubbub, it would not be shocking to see Soto even on the payroll when the Lerners find a buyer. A new owner could still exchange Soto with two full years of control of the remaining team, even if that sale does not happen until the low season.
While the possibility of an agreement remains viable, the teams will continue to register with the GM Mike Rizzo of the nationals. The Yankees are Mets are two of the main contestants for Soto. The Yankees are the most likely destiny, however, given the understandable reluctance of the NATs to treat Soto to a division contender, says Andy Martino de Sny.TV. Nationals already have to live with former stars Bryce Harper and Max Scherzer in the same division. National fans would certainly not be happy to face Harper and Soto within the division during the next decade.
