A 17-year-old boy has been imprisoned for defiling Assin Fosu's 12-year-old sister.
His lorship Abdul Majid Iliasu, presided over by the Assin Fosu Magistrate Court, sentenced a 17-year-old boy to 36 months in Senior Correctional Center with hard labor for physically assaulting and defiling his 12-year-old biological sister at Assin Kyekyewere.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Matilda Osaah Buabeng, stated in court that the Survivor (name withheld) was returning from school while it was raining, so the juvenile offender, who happens to be the survivor's biological brother, asked her to find shade in his veranda and continue her journey home after the rain.
The Juvenile Offender forced her into his room and sexually assaulted her while she was on the veranda.
She claimed that the survivor screamed and screamed during the process, but the juvenile offender, fearing that the noise would draw attention to the location, covered her mouth and twisted her neck, having sexual intercourse with her after the survivor had already lost consciousness.
She went on to say that after committing the heinous act, the perpetrator, believing the survivor had died, threw her through the window to the back of the building and covered her with palm branches in order to hide the victim from passersby.
The survivor regained consciousness after heavy rain and reported the incident to her parents.
The parents had previously filed a complaint with the police, and a medical form was issued to seek medical care for the survivor, after which the juvenile offender was arrested.
According to the prosecution, the 17-year-old offender, a school dropout, admitted to committing the offense in his caution statement.
He pleaded guilty to the crime and was subsequently convicted.
According to the court, the offender will spend 36 months in Accra's senior correctional center at Maamobi.
Meanwhile, Angus Amoah, the Director of Social Welfare and Community Development at Assin Fosu, who served on the jury panel that heard the case in chambers, vehemently condemned the act, saying such a barbaric act should never be entertained in society.
He claimed that a social investigation conducted by his organization revealed that the offender's moral turpitudes were the result of parental neglect.
He used the occasion to implore parents to provide their children with the best possible support both at school and at home, and he added that children need both parents to help shape their lives as they grow up.
He stated that, while the survivor is currently medically stable, a clinical psychologist will be assigned to her and her family for extensive counseling because she was traumatized, which could affect her as she grows.
