The renovation of Asomdwoe Park under Mills' reputed "fiercest critic" makes me delighted. Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed his happiness that the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills' final resting place, Asomdwoe Park, has been elevated to a status befitting that of a president of the Republic of Ghana. Mills passed away while serving as president about ten years ago.
On July 24, 2022, Mr. Akufo-Addo declared the rehabilitated Asomdwoe Park open for use. He said that after learning of the "sad state of Asomdwoe Park" at some point after becoming president, he "received a request from the late President's energetic Communications Director, Koku Anyidoho, who runs the Institute named after the President, for the assistance of Government to rehabilitate the facility."
He acknowledged his agreement and then gave the Coastal Development Authority the go-ahead to completely renovate the Park with the Institute's assistance.
"I am pleased that Asomdwoe Park has been elevated to a status befitting the final resting place of a President of the Republic of Ghana under the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who is said to have been his 'fiercest critic.' It was wrong that the Park had been allowed to deteriorate significantly over the years since his burial in 2012.
I didn't do it to capitalize on or take advantage of any purported differences inside the political party to which he belonged; I only had that goal in mind.
These supposed divides are not the result of my actions and do not in any way benefit me.
"Unfortunate allegations regarding the alleged damage of the late President's mausoleum during the Park's rehabilitation have also been made against the Government. Nothing could be further from the truth, and it is commendable to note that the Coastal Development Authority, via the agency of its CEO, Mr. Jerry Ahmed Schaib, in a public statement signed by him, has strongly refuted and disproved these false, hostile assertions.
"My wife Rebecca and our kids stand with me and the government in once again expressing our deepest sympathies to his wife Naadu, his son, his entire family, the National Democratic Congress, and, in fact, the people of Ghana for their tragic loss. We won't forget the man from Ekumfi Otuam. In light of this, ladies and gentlemen, it is a distinct honor for me to formally commission the Asomdwoe Park.
"President John Evans Atta Mills, my dear buddy Fiifi, rest and live in the perfect serenity of the Almighty till the day of the Resurrection when we shall all be reunited. He said, "May God continue to bless his soul, as well as ours, and may He make Ghana great and strong.
