Lionel Messi, a legendary member of FC Barcelona, has the option of returning at some point.

The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, has made it possible for Lionel Messi to visit the Camp Nou again.

Messi gave a sad farewell statement from the stadium's auditorium last summer, just before leaving to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi joined Barcelona as a shy 12-year-old from Argentina, and his contract with the club was allowed to lapse on June 30, 2021 since the Catalans were unable to negotiate a new deal for him because of their debts and the severe salary cap in La Liga at the time.

Barca had to admit defeat and release the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner, who then rocked up at Paris Saint Germain on a two-year contract.

Despite winning Ligue 1 in his debut season, Messi has struggled to settle in Paris. Nevertheless, it appears that he will uphold the terms of his contract with the giants backed by Qatar and represent Argentina at the World Cup.

However, Barca president Joan Laporta addressed Messi and kept the door open for a return to Catalonia in an interview with ESPN.

On the eve of his team's 1-0 victory over Real Madrid in Las Vegas, Laporta said of Messi, "He has been everything. For Barca he has arguably been the finest player in history, the most efficient, only equivalent to Johan Cruyff in the history of Barca."

Laporta referred to the rule of his predecessor Josep Bartomeu and said, "But it had to happen one day, we had to make a decision as a result of the heritage we had acquired."

"The institution is above players and coaches, but I think, I wish that the Messi chapter is still open at Barca, and I think our responsibility is to ensure that this open chapter, which has not yet been closed, has a good moment in which it can be done as it should have been done and, in addition, has a much more splendid ending than it had," said Messi.

Laporta then acknowledged that, "morally," he owed Messi an apology for the manner in which he left.

"I believe that as Barca's president, I fulfilled my obligations. However, I believe I owe him on a personal basis and in my capacity as president "Laporta came to an end.
