In order to launch a fight for the Premier League title next season, Thomas Tuchel has acknowledged that Chelsea FC has to make more additions this summer.
Prior to their final matchup before the new season against Udinese on Friday, the south west London team was humiliated 4-0 by Arsenal in their most recent preseason friendly on Saturday night.
Despite having a ton of possible incoming moves connected to them this summer, Chelsea FC has only signed Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, along with adolescents Eddie Beach and Omari Hutchinson.
In recent days, the Blues have been heavily connected with a move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde, while Cesar Azpilicueta appears destined to leave the team during the current transfer window.
Speaking after the loss to Arsenal, Tuchel made it clear that the team needs to add more reinforcements if they hope to improve on their third-place finish next season. Chelsea FC has also seen Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leave Stamford Bridge on free transfers this summer.
The Athletic quotes Tuchel as saying: "I am far from relaxed" following the defeat to Arsenal. We were simply not good enough, thus it is fair to say that we deserved to lose. Simply put, we lacked competitiveness.
"The past week supports my assertion. Without a doubt, I would rather be wrong. I tried everything to disprove my own assumptions, but right now I believe I was correct.
"I look back at the previous season and the games and seasons where we suffered, and then we got sanctioned, guys left us, and some players are attempting to leave us, and this is where it is now," the player said.
So, a great number of high-caliber players were urgently sought after. We have two excellent players, but we lack this level of competition. Unfortunately, it was visible today.
Given that the summer transfer window won't close until the first of September, Chelsea FC still has plenty of time to complete their acquisitions.
The Premier League season will begin the next weekend, therefore the Blues will most certainly want to sign fresh players as soon as they can.
