Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea said that he has already shown what he is capable of doing at Old Trafford and now has nothing to prove to anyone.

De Gea said this while responding to the question of his ability to play from the back with Erik ten Hag, keen on implementing his own playing style.

De Gea has once again, appeared on the receiving end of a volley from the new Dutch manager after he chose to play a long ball during their 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in Melbourne earlier this week.

The goalkeeper, who is now one of the longest-serving players at Old Trafford, has also been criticised for his distribution.

But the 31-year-old Spain number one is adamant that he can adopt the style required under Ten Hag.

Asked if he felt confident about playing out from the back, De Gea told reporters: “Yeah. Of course, if you want to play from the back you need a good structure.

“I think I showed already. If you watch my games with the national team or when we played with Sir Alex at the beginning, you could see it, I don’t need to show off to anyone.

“I’ve been playing for many years. I will try my best.

“As always, I’m going to stay quiet, calm and try to show that to the team and play out from the back.”
