The First Snapdragon W5 Smartwatch Will Be The Oppo Watch 3
Qualcomm recently announced its Snapdragon W5 wearable platform, and the Oppo Watch 3 will be the first smartwatch to feature the new chipset.
Following the launch of the new Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 series wearable platform, Qualcomm has revealed that the Oppo Watch 3 will be the first smartwatch powered by the chipset. Oppo entered the wearables market back in 2020 when it launched the Oppo Watch, a square-faced smartwatch with a design many said was inspired by the Apple Watch.
The Oppo Watch was first launched in China running a modified version of Android. However, it was globally released with Wear OS. Later that same year, Oppo released an ECG version of the smartwatch. In 2021, the Oppo Watch 2 followed with an improved design, additional features, and a new 42mm dial size.
According to Qualcomm's press release, the Oppo Watch 3 series will be the first smartwatch powered by the Snapdragon W5 wearable chipset. The smartwatch will be announced in August 2022 but the specific date is still unknown. This is good news for consumers, as it cuts the interval between the launch of the chipset and the first product to feature it to about a month. In contrast, the first Snapdragon Wear 4100 smartwatch was announced three months after Qualcomm unveiled the chipset.
